Joy Emerson passed peacefully in her home on October 9th, 2021. Her unexpected loss is devastating for those who came to know her smile and warm caring way. Inflicted with hardships early in life, Joy learned the meaning of self reliance. While those hardships might have turned many people bitter, they served only to make her more empathetic and caring for others. She in fact, dedicated her life's work to the care of others. She had an unquenchable thirst for continued learning and believed creative magic occurred best in shared passions. She lived as she preached and sought to make everything more beautiful and healthy than she found it.
Joy's desire to make a difference could be seen throughout her professional career. She put herself through school and began her career as a BSN nurse in pediatric oncology at a Phila inner city teaching hospital. She was passionate about healthcare. She received her advanced practice nursing degree from Vanderbilt University. In addition to her work in nursing, she served as the President, Board of Trustees, for the Tennessee chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and spent over 20 years working in the pharmaceutical industry in various leadership and strategic roles. Those who had the opportunity to work with Joy saw her as a trusted friend and advisor and were even known to refer to her as the "best boss ever. Most recently, she was focused on building her coaching and mentoring practice, and advising various healthcare companies.
Her "mission" to others was a lifelong commitment, and she often expressed no desire to ever retire from fulfilling this betterment of health and humanity. With her last breath, she never did retire from that commitment.
