Joyce Annette Higgins, age 88, of Baxley passed away Saturday, July 5, 2025 at her residence under the care of Comfort Care Hospice.
Mrs. Higgins was born April 5, 1937 in Appling County to the late Staten Carter and the late Mary Sadie Branch Carter. She was a member of Spring Branch Baptist Church and the S.A.L.T. Ladies. She was a retired cashier with Dwain’s IGA and Winn Dixie. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Higgins was preceded in death by her husband, Sherod Paul Higgins, grandson, Dan Beecher, and son-in-law, Calvin Kersey.
Survivors include her daughters, Pam Kersey, Joyce “Teeny” (Lloyd) Beecher, and Cindy (E. C.) Everett all of Baxley; sons, Dorsey (Tammy) Higgins of Baxley and Paul Higgins (Mark Cooper) of Savannah; grandchildren, Jocelyn (Chad) Arrendale of Barney, Melissa (Brent) Johnson of Baxley, Jared Beecher (Leslie Tucker) of Morvin, Clifton Kersey of Baxley, Heather Kersey of Baxley, Taylor Higgins of Knoxville, TN, and Gracy Higgins of Baxley; great grandchildren, Karlie Arrendale, Kelbie Arrendale, Lily Johnson, Sadie Johnson, and Scooter Dills; sisters, Jean (Shelly) Brodsky of Red Bank, NJ and JoAnn Bruce of Baxley; sister-in-law, Dot Higgins of Baxley; and brother-in-law, Jimmy Harris of Covington, VA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Bryan Gill and Rev. Justin McLellan officiating. Interment will follow in Carter Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Jerry Baxley, Roy Williamson, Carlos Griffin, Devin Mincey, John Grady Branch, Larry Branch, and Adam Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Oasis Sunday School Class of Spring Branch Baptist Church, the Staff of Comfort Care Hospice, Cynthia Howard, Matt Hodges, Summer Bruce, and all friends and family in attendance.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 8, 2025 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Swain Funeral Home.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
