Joyce Horne Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Metropolitan Funeral Service - Granby Chapel on Dec. 16, 2025.
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." – Psalm 34:18
Joyce Reid Horne, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully entered into eternal rest on December 8, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Joyce lived a life marked by strength, humor, honesty, and unconditional love. She was born and raised in Wilson, North Carolina, where she attended Fike High School. Determined to provide a better life for her family, she later moved to Norfolk, Virginia, with her eldest daughter, Melvina Reid.

Joyce embraced this new beginning filled with hope and opportunity. It was here in Virginia that she was blessed to meet her forever love, Daniel "Dan" Teat. As God saw fit, the two shared 46 strong years of marriage built on loyalty, laughter, and unwavering devotion.

Joyce was the proud mother of three daughters. She took pride in being there for her family and helping out wherever she was needed. Joyce encouraged her daughters to work hard and to never settle or allow society to define them. She doted on her grandkids and wouldn't hesitate to step in to support them, too.

Joyce was a woman full of fire and honesty. She loved deeply, spoke boldly, and laughed loudly. If you ever played Gin Rummy 5000 with her, you already knew to count behind her because she was going to cheat with a cunning smirk and act innocent the whole time.

She adored The Young and the Restless and one of her favorite pastimes was sitting on the porch with her friends-coffee in hand, cigarette lit, sharing the latest gossip until the early morning hours. And if you wanted the truth, Joyce would give it to you straight-"What comes up, comes out." Her realness was unmatched, and her presence unforgettable.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Joyce and Sedrick Reid, her daughter Melvina Reid, and siblings Ida Pearl Reid, Carolyn Reid, and Sedrick Reid; mother-in-law, Mary E. Teat; sister-in-laws, Verna Reid and Sheila Powell and great grandson, Eugene Anthony Reid.

To carry on her legacy, Joyce leaves two amazing daughters, Jennifer Galloway (Kay) and Danielle Horne; beloved grandchildren: Kameshia "Meme" Reid, Tylik Reid,Sr., Briana Horne-Reid (Rashad), Ariana Woods, Trevion Devaux, August Galloway, Prince Adams, and Jordan Horne. She was abundantly blessed with six great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy: Tyliah, Tylik Jr., Tyrell, Ka'Mya, Ayori, and Reilynn. Additionally, she is survived by three siblings: Jim Reid, Robin Reid, and Earl Reid (Teresa) and sister-in-law, Gail Combs (James)who will forever cherish the bond they shared. Joyce also had three "special daughters": Jenal Stephenson, Tamara Powell and Sonya Howell to share her love with as well.

Joyce will definitely be missed in the earthly realm; however, we are at peace knowing that she is resting pain free in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

And God shall wipe all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." – Revelations 21:4

In Loving Memory of Cousin Joyce Ann

Joyce Ann was one of the sweethearts of our family. She loved deeply and never hesitated to let you know how much you meant to her. Her infectious smile and laughter lit up every room, bringing joy and warmth to all who were blessed to be in her presence.

She was more than a cousin, sister, and friend-she was our family´s sweetheart. Joyce Ann´s love was steadfast, her spirit radiant, and her kindness unforgettable.

We will miss her and Mel dearly, but we carry comfort in knowing that their love continues to live within us. Her memory will forever be a source of strength, joy, and inspiration.
