Joyce Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Southern Utah Mortuary - Cedar City on Feb. 3, 2026.
Joyce Broderick Johnson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, in Cedar City, Utah, at the age of 74. We rejoice in her faithful life and that she has been reunited with her loving parents and siblings beyond the veil.

Joyce was born to Clement H & Marie Cox Broderick on June 7, 1951, in Hurricane, Utah. She enjoyed growing up in Utah with her many siblings before her family moved to Midland, Michigan, where she served as seminary president and graduated from high school in 1969. Shortly after returning to Utah she met her sweetheart, Dennis Johnson, who quickly swept her off her feet, proposing marriage on July 16, 1969-the day Apollo 11 launched from Cape Canaveral on a mission to put the first men on the moon, of which Joyce famously said, "The astronauts landed on the moon on July 20, but I made it there first". Dennis and Joyce were married in the Salt Lake Temple on October 6, 1969.

Joyce was kind, generous, and easy to talk to. Her authenticity, child-like love and acceptance for everyone, endeared her to many, many friends. Her nine siblings all felt they were each the most important person in the world, because Joyce had a gift of making people feel that way.

She enjoyed sewing, and all aspects of music, playing the piano, flute, and violin. She was tenacious in living the gospel and avoiding evil influences.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Dennis Johnson; her children: Carlon (Heather), Candace, Weston (Heather); siblings: Glenna Fletcher, Anita (Alma) Fletcher, Janeen Jensen, Bert (Maggie) Broderick, Viona (David) Evans, LaVon (Janiece) Broderick, and Tony (Kara) Broderick; grandchildren: Jordan (Erik) Fuentes, Jarom (Allie) Johnson, Isaac, Ian, Isabella, Hannah, Laurel, Nathaniel, Grant, and Clayton; and great-grandchildren: Elias, Emma, Ezra, Boston, Bentley and two boys on their way. She is preceded in death by her parents, and siblings Roger Broderick and Betty Martin.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 6, 2026 at 4:00 pm at the LDS church building on 290 West 1045 North, Cedar City, Utah, with a prior viewing at 3:00 pm. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 12:00 noon at the cemetery in Henrieville, Utah under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. Online condolences can be shared on the website www.mortuary.org.

We, the family, would like to thank her husband, Dennis, daughter, Candace, and sister, Janeen for being kind caretakers to Joyce over the last few years. We also wish to acknowledge the loving care and compassion of the staff at Cedar Health and Rehab.
