Joyce A. Karavetsos, a cherished soul known for her unwavering kindness and friendly demeanor, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 19, 1939, in Boston, Massachusetts, Joyce lived a life full of love, laughter, and the joy of family and friends.
A Boston native through and through, Joyce graduated from Girls High School and went on to dedicate nearly four decades of her life working at John Hancock. Her commitment to her job was only surpassed by her devotion to her family. Joyce was the beloved wife of Charles Karavetsos for 60 incredible years, sharing a lifetime of memories and unwavering support for one another.
She was the caring daughter of the late George and Vivian (Purdy) Madore, and a sister who cherished her siblings deeply: Marilyn Sheehan and her husband Peter of Dorchester, Frances Eremita and her late husband John of Dorchester, and Arthur Madore and his wife Kathy of Canton. Joyce's role as an aunt was one she took to heart, lovingly guiding and supporting Barbara Spano and her husband Robert, Lisa Dustin, Elizabeth Sheehan, Jennifer Sandoval and her husband Lyndon, Robert Madore and his wife Christine, John Karavetsos, Raymond Karavetsos, Dee Ford, Paula Karavetsos, Linda Karavetsos, Andrea Trombley and her husband Dennis, and she held dear the memory of the late Janice Tower and Karen Hamilton.
Her great-nieces and nephews-Bobby, Raymond, Michelle, Amanda, Melissa, Matthew, Alyssa, Alexandra, Nicholas, Sara, Morgan, Lily, Tyler, Alex, and Abby-knew her as the great aunt whose love knew no bounds. Joyce's life was a testament to the strength of family ties, and she is also survived by many loving relatives and friends who felt the warmth of her embrace and the generosity of her spirit.
Joyce's interests painted the picture of a woman who embraced life with enthusiasm. Her favorite holidays-Christmas and the Fourth of July-were occasions for grand celebrations that she hosted with joy and flair. Celebrating Easter and the tradition of egg cracking was always enjoyed. Summers were synonymous with Sundays at the pool, where she welcomed family and friends to bask in the sun and enjoy each other's company. A Red Sox superfan, Joyce meticulously prepared for each game, her passion for the team as enduring as her love for her family. She was a fixture at birthday parties, sporting events, plays, recitals, baptisms, communions, confirmations, graduations, and weddings, her presence a constant support for her nieces and nephews, regardless of the distance.
Travel was one of Joyce's greatest pleasures. With her beloved husband Charlie, she explored New Hampshire, Maine, the casinos of Connecticut, the historical sites of Washington DC and Philadelphia, the charming streets of Roswell, Georgia, the majestic Niagara Falls, the cultural sights of Montreal, Canada, and the serene beaches of Cape Cod. Each journey was enriched by the company of family and the creation of cherished traditions. Following her retirement in 1996, Joyce and Charlie embarked on adventures to Hawaii, Aruba, Alaska, and Florida, creating memories that will endure in their hearts forever.
Joyce A. Karavetsos lived a life that was loving, kind, and friendly to all she met. Her legacy is one of unwavering support, boundless enthusiasm, and a capacity for love that stretched to every corner of her world. She will be deeply missed, yet the light she brought into this world will continue to shine in the lives of those she touched. Her memory will be forever cherished, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
