Joyce E. Martin

Joyce Evelyn Martin, 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 19, 2022 at Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen, NH. 

Born February 9, 1941 in Somerville, MA to John Francis and Ruth (Vaughan) Martin, Joyce graduated in 1958 from Somerville High School. There she had participated in many extracurricular activities, including Pep Club, Business Club, Literary Club, Chorus and Glee Club. 

Joyce worked as an Executive Secretary for most of her adult career at Digital Equipment Corp in Maynard, MA and Merrimack, NH. After retiring from DEC in 1980, she held various jobs: as a security officer at DEC in Merrimack, NH, a Tax Preparer at H&R Block and a realtor at Canfield Realty in Hudson, NH. In her later years, she worked as an adult community education Secretary in Concord, NH, and a Secretary at the SAU in Lawrence, MA. 

During the 70’s and early 80’s, she and her young family spent many vacations in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region, as well as Saco and Old Orchard Beach, Maine, and Cape Cod, MA. Since 1983, her adult, extended family has vacationed yearly at Mittersill Resort in Franconia, NH during February school vacation. 

She enjoyed scrapbooking, playing bingo and cribbage, and watching sci-fi and Law and Order. She and her late husband, Emery, enjoyed frequenting the Windham Senior Center in the 90’s and 2000’s. She treasured her grandchildren and great-grandchildren above all. 

Joyce is predeceased by her late husband, Emery J. Gaudet, Sr., son, E. Joseph Gaudet, Jr., grandson, Joseph S. Gaudet, and parents John F. Martin and Ruth (Vaughan) Centauro, and recently, her best life-long friend, Bernice Eubanks of Shirley, MA. 

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Gaudet) Bourdeau of Tilton, NH, grandchildren, Jeffrey and Matthew Gaudet, and Russell Holmes of Peterborough, NH, Stephanie Gaudet of Punta Gordy, Fla, Ryan Gaudet of Nashua, NH, Trevor Boulerisse of Boscawen, NH, Leah, Hannah, and Scott Gaudet of Milford, NH, Bronson Gaudet of Wilton, NH, five great-grandchildren: Lily, Eddie, Ellie, Wesley, and Levi, and half-brother, Eugene Centauro of Waldwick, NJ.

Our family would like to thank The Carriage House of Northfield, NH for Joyce’s care with assisted living in the transition following the passing of her late son, Joe, who had been her primary caretaker through her ongoing stages of dementia. We also wish to extend our gratitude to the Merrimack County Nursing Home staff for their compassionate support during the final months of Joyce’s life. On the evening of her passing, the team was by her side providing extra special care.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours for Joyce on Sunday, August 28 at the Cremation Society of New Hampshire, 172 King St., Boscawen, NH. starting at 2pm until 4pm with a memorial service promptly at 3pm. Guests are encouraged to bring a dish of food for a pot luck in the facility cafe, available immediately following the service from 3-5pm. Beverages will be provided. An after gathering with light refreshments will be held at Alan’s of Boscawen, 133 N. Main St., Boscawen, NH beginning at 5pm.
