Joyce A. Pearce, age 85, of Marion, IL, passed away peacefully at 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, in Heartland Regional Medical Center of Marion, IL.
She was born on March 20, 1939, in Christopher, IL, the daughter of Leonard and Eileen (Minton) McDonald.
Joyce was raised as a child in Christopher, IL, attending Christopher Schools and was a graduate of Christopher High School Class of 1957.
She was united in marriage to James Wilfred Pearce on December 18, 1959, in Christopher, and together they shared nearly 32 years of marriage until his death on June 25, 1991.
Early in her life, while raising her family, she had a beauty shop in her home and worked as a Cosmetologist for many years. Later she was a partner owning a woman's clothing store in Marion, called Fashion Crossroads, located near the downtown square. Eventually she began working for the Marion Unit 2 School System in food service for several years until her retirement around 2017. Since she loved to cook, she also had a catering service specializing in weddings and many other events.
Early in her lifetime she was a member and attended with her family at the First Baptist Church of Marion. She currently was a member of the Third Baptist Church of Energy, IL.
In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking, dancing, listening to country music, was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball and Saluki Basketball fan. She also looked forward every year traveling to Florida and enjoying the beach.
She loved her family and all of her many friends and was always willing to do something for those who had a need. The many memories that have been created will now be cherished by those she leaves behind.
She is survived by two sons, Scott M. Pearce and wife, Jennifer and Joe Pearce and wife, Sally all of Marion, IL; three grandchildren, Brian Scott Pearce and Tuesday Maxwell both of Sebring, FL and Hailey Johnson and husband, Brandon of Marion, IL; three great grandchildren, Bentley Drake and Rhett Johnson both of Marion, IL and Alexis Hitlaw of Sebring, FL; sister, Phyllis Buchanan of Valier, IL; sister-in-law, Carolyn McDonald; niece and nephew, John and Cindy McDonald, other extended family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Charles "Butch" McDonald.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL.
The visitation will be at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home on Monday, June 17, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Following the time of visitation, the funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Kevin McNeely presiding.
Interment will follow next to her husband in Rose Hill Cemetery of Marion.
Since Joyce had a great love for animals, the family suggests for those who prefer, memorial contributions be directed to "Finding Forever" an animal rescue center in Marion. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or may be mailed c/o Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL 62959.
