Joyce Pugh Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by San Jacinto Funeral Home & Cremation Services & Cemetery on Mar. 3, 2026.
Delores Joyce Pugh (Joyce) was born June 20, 1934, to Ophelia and O.B. Shaffer in Beaumont, Texas, and passed away peacefully at her home in Galena Park, Texas, on February 27, 2026.

Joyce lived in Beaumont, Texas, and attended public schools there, where she acquired many fond memories which she shared with her children. She met August Leo Pugh in Houston, and they were married on August 8, 1959, and lived their entire 60 years of married life in Galena Park. Joyce was a passionate mother to her two sons, and dedicated her life to her family and children, while also pursuing a fulfilling Human Resources career at GATX International for more than 25 years. She enjoyed her flowers and gardening, as well as rescuing her pets, and keeping up with current events and her family through social media.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Leo Pugh, her brother Brady Shaffer, and sisters Faye Hooks and June Yawn. Survivors include two sons, Greg and his wife Valerie of San Antonio, Brad and his wife Christine of Atascocita; five grandchildren, Ashley Pugh and her husband Rick, Lindsey Rickett and her husband Brandon, Shelby Pugh, Darby Pugh, Toby Pugh, two great grandchildren, Claire and Caden Rickett, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers for services are the following: Brad Pugh, Shelby Pugh, Darby Pugh, Toby Pugh, Michael Hooks, Steve Benson, Elizabeth Velasco, and Brandon Rickett.

Joyce will always be dearly missed and forever loved as a caring mother, grandmother, aunt, and loyal friend. The family would like to thank Elizabeth Velasco for her compassionate care for Joyce. Memorials may be directed to the Houston Humane Society (PO Box 450528, Houston, TX 77245) which exemplifies Joyce's love for rescuing animals and encouraging pet adoptions.
