TROY, Ohio - Joyce (Lodge) (Adams) Shaw, age 90, of Troy, Ohio, formerly of Albany, N.Y., passed away on Saturday, January 31,2026, at Otterbein of Tipp City. She was the daughter of Ronald and Marjorie Williamson Lodge. She was preceded in death by her husband Ronald N. Shaw, on February 19, 2019. They were married March 13, 1992 in Brookport, Ky.
Known to her friends as "Jo," she graduated from the Albany Academy for Girls in 1953, and received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Psychology from the University of Rochester, in 1957. She began working in her dad's store, B. Lodge Co., in Albany in the 1940s off and on, until she graduated from college. Her first social work job was as a case worker for The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, in Rochester, N.Y. She next sent underprivileged children to summer camp at Washtenaw Camp Placement, a United Way Agency in Ann Arbor, Mich. After relocating to Troy in the early 1980s, she continued her education at both Edison and Wright State, to become a licensed social worker, spending about 20 years at area nursing homes. She retired from Piqua Manor as Resident Services Coordinator, but then moved on part time for a few years at Garbry Ridge Assisted Living in dining services, and as Human Resources Coordinator.
Jo is survived by her loving son, Bradford C. Adams of Troy; her daughter-in-law (widow of K.C. Adams), Melanie Gill, of Manistee, Mich.; two nieces: Deborah (Emerick) Blanken, Buffalo Grove, Ill., and Dianne (Emerick)Tiedemann, Rochester, N.Y. She was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth C. Adams, Manistee, Mich. in 2016; her sister, Merilyn Lodge Emerich; and her brother, 1st Lt. Bradford Lodge, USAF, both of Albany; and one nephew, R. Scott Emerich. Jo was confirmed in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Albany in 1947, and later joined her family in membership at First Presbyterian Church, also in Albany.
No local services are planned by Jo's choice. Burial for Jo and Ron together will be handled in Albany by Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, Latham, N.Y., at Albany Rural Cemetery. Arrangements in Ohio are being handled by Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, in Piqua.
