Joyce was born January 2nd, 1939 to Chet and Evelyn Lett. She grew up in Leiter’s Ford. Joyce is survived by her husband David Wrigley Smith, married 68 years, and two children: Cindy Sudlow (Rich) and Randy Smith (Tammy). They have four grandchildren: Nathan (Jessica), Bethany (Tyler), Jena, and Anna. They have eleven great-grandchildren.
Joyce attended Aubbeenaubbee School in Delong, Indiana. After marrying David, she raised their family in Hibbard, Indiana followed by the majority of their years in South Bend, Indiana. After her own children were grown, Joyce spent many years babysitting, often children of people working or studying at the University of Notre Dame.
Her family was her priority. Most every weekend she would travel from South Bend to Leiter’s Ford to visit with her dad. She loved having her family over to eat and to be together. Holidays were especially important to her. Joyce loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as those she babysat. She enjoyed shopping with David and her friends, and eating in the food court at University Park Mall. She was a great mother and wife, with a sense of humor.
In later years she came to trusting faith in Jesus Christ and attended Redeemer Missionary Church, then Faith Community Church where her son Rev Randy Smith PhD had been pastor. Joyce went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday September 9th, 2025. She will be missed.
