Joyce Lynn Smith, formerly known as Joyce Woodard, was born on January 8, 1945, in Elmwood, Tennessee, in Smith County. She passed away on September 11, 2025, in Gallatin, Tennessee, leaving behind a legacy of love and resilience.
Joyce dedicated many years of her life to her career at GE, where she earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues. After her retirement, she became known for her warmhearted nature, generous spirit, and deep commitment to her family.
She was preceded in death by her father, Hugh Woodard, her mother, Nellie Smallwood Woodard, her husband, William "Bill" Russell Smith; and her siblings, Hugh "Buddy" Woodard, Ricky Woodard, Doris Smith, and Karen Simmons.
She is survived by her children, Dewayne Owen (Aleta), Tony Owen (Pam), and Janet Doss. Joyce was a proud grandmother to Brandon Owen (DJ), Derek Owen (Megan), Kyle Owen (Heather), Jenna Fox (Martin), Tylar Doss (Breana), and Alex Doss (Sara). Her family grew further with numerous great-grandchildren, as well as cherished nieces and nephews who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
Joyce was the cherished sister of Larry Woodard (Josie), Linda Collins, and Janice Stinson, who will miss her dearly.
Visitation services for Joyce Lynn Smith will be held at Anderson Funeral Home, located at 202 East Main St, Gallatin, TN 37066, on Monday, September 15, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and again on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The funeral service will follow on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 2:00 PM with Michael Nesbitt officiating.
