1930 - 2025
Joyce Louise Smith, age 95, of Grand Rapids, MN, peacefully passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at Oak Hill Assistant Living in Grand Rapids, MN.
Joyce was born on December 18, 1930 in Seneca, South Dakota, to parents Richard and Louise Russell. She married Clem J. Smith on February 16, 1951 in Grand Rapids, MN. Joyce was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, reading, and spending time with family. She looked forward to her annual sibling reunion at Pincherry Grove Resort in Cohasset, MN.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clem; son, Randy; great-grandson, Isaac Smith; brothers, Richard (Iris) Russell, Thomas (Charlotte) Russell, and Harry Russell; sisters, Darlene Hellerstedt, and Patricia Eggebraaten; sisters and brothers-in-law, Beverly (Olaf) Liila, and Marion (James) Hathaway.
Joyce is survived by her children, Michael (Ann) Smith and Brian (Deb) Smith of Grand Rapids, MN, David (Linda) Smith of Coleraine, MN, and Peggy (Craig) Trevena of Cape Coral, FL; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Linda (Mark) Paduck of Loveland, OH, and Kathryn (Paul) Dubuque of Crookston, MN; brother-in-law, Wally Eggebraaten of Hastings, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family of Joyce Smith extends their gratitude to the staff of Oak Hills Assisted Living in Grand Rapids, MN and Essentia Health Hospice for the excellent care that Joyce received.
A memorial service is being planned for July 2026. A full obituary will be published again closer to the service with the date, time and location.
