Joyce Soholt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Spooner Funeral Home on Mar. 17, 2026.
Joyce A. (Peck) Soholt, age 99 years and 11 months, a resident of Shell Lake, WI, entered into the welcoming arms of her Lord and Savior on March 4, 2026.

Joyce was born on April 7, 1926, in Hallie Township, Chippewa County, Wisconsin, to Forest O. and Geelka (Reverts) Peck. She began her education at Crandell School in Chippewa County at the age of four, helping the school maintain sufficient enrollment to remain open. She continued her studies at Pleasant Hour School through eighth grade and went on to graduate from Chippewa Falls High School in 1943. In 1950, she married Delbert Soholt in Chippewa Falls, though the marriage later ended in divorce. The couple relocated to Bismarck, North Dakota, where she worked as a key punch operator for the North Dakota State Motor Vehicle Department. In 1951, they moved to Carrington, North Dakota, where they welcomed three children: Linda, Jerold, and Jeffery. Later, they lived in Mondovi, Wisconsin, before settling in Shell Lake, where they owned and operated Shell Lake Hardware. She went on to work as the office manager at Empire Gas for 15 years before retiring.

Joyce was a devoted member of the Spooner Wesleyan Church and a passionate servant in her community. She served as an officer for the Shell Lake Senior Citizens and contributed her time on the Washburn County Aging Advisory Board. For the past five years at Glenview Assisted Living, Joyce delighted in playing games such as Mexican Train, Skipbo, Uno, and Bingo, enjoying every activity with her fellow residents. A devoted student of the Bible and a mighty prayer warrior, Joyce's faith and kindness touched all who knew her.

Joyce is survived by her children: Linda (Herb) Schrankel of Shell Lake, WI; Jerold "Jerry" (Deb) Soholt of Sioux Falls, SD; and Jeffery "Jeff" (Paula) Soholt of Plymouth, MN. She was the beloved grandmother of Todd Schrankel of Shell Lake, WI; Chad Schrankel (Katie) of Barronett, WI; Josh Soholt (Kate) of Fort Collins, CO; Sam Soholt (Ashley) of Fargo, ND; and Molly Gilbert (AJ) of Rapid City, SD. Joyce also cherished her great-grandchildren: Conner, Kasey, Tatum, Cole, Jessica, Colby, Kylie, Tara, Caleb, Jake, Maya, Brooke, Morgan, Robyn, and Oakley. She is further survived by many special nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Forest and Geelka Peck; her grandson, Travis Schrankel; five brothers, Richard (Helen) Peck, Howard (Helen) Peck, Leonard (Jean) Peck, Willard (Arlene) Peck, and Allard (Carol) Peck; and nephews and nieces, Harold Peck, Forest Peck, Charles Soholt, Peggy Sonsalia, and Susan Peck.

A celebration of Joyce's life will be held at the Spooner Wesleyan Church with Pastor Ronald Gormong presiding on Wednesday, March 25. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. A light lunch will be served afterward. Burial will take place at Shell Lake Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Spooner Wesleyan Church.
