Mary Joyce (McCain) Suggs, 91, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. Born in Sylvester Texas on September 20, 1933, she was the second child of Medford and Ethel McCain. She married her high school sweetheart, Stephen Hollabaugh, and graduated from Roby High School in 1952. Together they raised two sons, Phil and Wayne, in Roby and later in Abilene. During those years they enjoyed square dancing, dominoes, and family gatherings.
In 1974 Joyce married Bill Suggs and continued to live in Abilene where she helped Bill finish raising his three children, Kim, Larry, and Dana. She had excellent organizational skills and managed Bill's successful tool and die business. Whenever any family member required special care, Joyce brought them into their home and cared for them as long as needed (Bill's parents, her own parents, and her half-brother).
After retirement, Joyce and Bill moved to Winters, Texas and continued to enjoy fishing, camping, cards, dominoes, family reunions (always well-organized by Joyce), and church gatherings. Early in 2021, shortly after Bill passed away, Joyce moved to Amarillo and became a resident at The Legacy where she was happily involved until her death. She was well-liked and will be remembered there for her quick wit and ornery (in a teasing way) nature.
Joyce was pre-deceased by her husband of 45 years, Bill Suggs, her parents, her siblings (half-brothers Earl Head and Gearl Head, brothers Charlie McCain, Kenneth McCain, Roy McCain, and sister Freda Holleman), stepchildren (Kim Vinson, Larry Suggs, and Dana Mason) and three step-grandsons. She is survived by sons, Phillip (Linda) Hollabaugh and Wayne (Tanya) Hollabaugh, four grandsons, one step-grandson, twelve great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law (Jodi McCain and Linda McCain) and several nephews and nieces.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Legacy at Town Square and Interim Hospice - Amarillo for their loving support and care of Joyce.
