Joyce N. Tipton

RICHMOND, Ind. – Joyce N. Tipton, age 81, of Richmond, Indiana, died Saturday, July 13, 2024, at home surrounded by family.
Born July 16, 1942, in Livingston, Kentucky, to John and Kitty Bell Smith Sams, Joyce had lived in this area since she was a teenager. She worked in environmental services at Reid Health for many years. After retiring, she worked as an ambassador at Fairfield Inn. Joyce enjoyed working around her yard, keeping her flower beds clean and taking care of others. She was a member of the Free Pentecostal Victory Tabernacle.
Survivors include her children, Rhonda Tipton, Donald Tipton, and Danny Tipton; grandchildren Bailey Swearingen, Jessie Swearingen, Amber Tipton, and Brittany Tipton; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Cora Lee Gray and Janet Miller; brothers, Charlie (Sadie) Sams and Vernon (Pam) Sams; nieces; nephews; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Jessie Tipton, in December of 2021; parents; sister, Pauline Sheppard; and brothers, Wade Sams and John Sams Jr.
Visitation for Joyce N. Tipton will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2024, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in Earlham Cemetery.
