Laura Joyce Parsons Wathen, 74, of Belleville, IN passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024. She was born in Danville, Indiana on July 26, 1950, and was the daughter of the late Donald E. and Ruth M. (York) Parsons. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her son, Keith Wathen, sister, Alice Prichett Liles, and two brothers, Shorti and Norman Parsons.
Joyce grew up on a dairy farm where she helped milk Jersey cows. Later she worked as a waitress, while also helping to deliver milk, and papers for the Indianapolis Star and News. Joyce was a founding member of Wathen Crop Insurance, while continuing to farm. Joyce loved visiting with her friends and customers. She enjoyed antiquing and going casino- gambling at the Horseshoe Indianapolis in Shelbyville and the Stardust in Las Vegas.
Joyce is survived by 4 sons, Richard Wathen, Tony Wathen, Scott Wathen and Bret (Meggen) Wathen; grandchildren, Ashley, Breanna, Ciera, Hayden, Madeline, Morgan, Tom, Bob, Daniel and Owen. Also surviving is Joyce's brother, John Parsons.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Helton & Harris Funeral Home, 4712 Pennsylvania St, CLAYTON, IN 46118. Following the visitation, friends my join the procession to the Spring Hill Cemetery on Cartersburg Road, where a GRAVESIDE service will be held at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joyce's name to the Alzheimer's Association at https://act.alz.org.
