Joyce Louise Whalen, 94, of Bradenton, Florida, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026. Her life began Jan. 4, 1932, in Richmond, Indiana the second of four children born to Frank and Christine Lang. She married Donald Whalen on May 17, 1952, in Richmond, Indiana. After forty-four years of marriage, he preceded her in death in April of 1997.
Throughout her life, Joyce worked for Gerber as a seamstress. She decorated cakes and enjoyed doing crafts. When she and Donald moved to Florida. They enjoyed working together at various jobs. Joyce will be greatly missed by family and friends.
She is survived by daughters, Cynthia (Steve) Wolfe of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Darlene (Bryan) Stethem of South Bend, Indiana; son, Donald P. (Laura) Whalen of Parrish, Florida; seven grandchildren, Traci (Randy) Akers, Barry (Heather) Kole, Danny (Darcy) Hoffman, Stephanie (Brandon) Morrell, Justin (Shannon) Whalen, Sarah (Mike) Parnell, Patrick Wolfe; seven great grandchildren, Brandon (Adelle) Kole, Brandy (Connor) Clarke, Kim (Nolan) Gray, Caitlyn Akers, Hannah Kole, Brooklyn Morrell, Sydney Morrell; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband; and her siblings. Family and friends will gather Saturday, Jan. 17 from 11 a.m. until time of service at 12 noon in Halbritter Wickens Funeral Services, 615 East Main Street, Niles. Joyce will be laid to rest beside her husband in Silverbrook Cemetery.
The family prefers contributions in memory of Joyce be made to Inspired Living, 5424 Lena Road, Bradenton, Florida 34211. Arrangements have been entrusted to Halbritter Wickens Funeral Services, Niles.
