Joyce Wright Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McCoy Funeral Home - Blacksburg on Sep. 8, 2025.
Joyce Thompson Wright, age 84, of Christiansburg, Va., passed away on September 1, 2025. Born on December 20, 1940, in Grayson County, Va., the daughter of Henry and Rose Thompson. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; infant son, Mark Allen Wright; and loving husband of 60 years, Grayson Wright. Joyce is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Toby and Peachy Wright, and Pat and Vicki Wright, all of Christiansburg, VA; four granddaughters, Paige Wright and Haley of Jackson Springs, NC; Courtney Orey and Hunter, Kara Wright and Grace Wright all of Christiansburg, Va.; great granddaughter, Helena Wright of Jackson Springs, NC; one sister, Sarah Campbell of Dublin, Va.; niece, Sherrie Austin of Hawaii; special family members Billy and Penny Baumgardner of Low Gap, NC; and special friend Janis Wilfore of Blacksburg, Va. Joyce grew up in Grayson County and graduated from Independence High School in 1959. She and Grayson were married on September 14, 1962, after which they moved to Christiansburg. Joyce worked for and retired from Electro-Tec Corporation in Blacksburg. Joyce's greatest joy came from her family and her flowers. She loved flowers of all kinds but was particularly fond of the daylilies that she and Grayson planted all around their home. The family would like to thank Tamara Shimozono and Ginger Patton for their dedicated care of Joyce over the last few years. To Joyce they were friends not just care givers. A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, September 9th at the family cemetery, Pleasant Hill Church, 3710 Pine Mountain Rd., Independence, Va. Pastor Scott Obenchain will officiate.

Joyce is my cousin. Her dad was my uncle Henry, my mother Nancy Thompson Jessup's brother. I am so sorry about her passing. If you need any family history, I would be glad to share. We were together a lot when her dad ran the stores in Meadows of Dan.
