Judith Garvey Obituary
Judy was born October 3, 1945 in Jefferson City, Missouri to Charles Grant Rose and June Loretta Rose. Judy grew up in Overland Park, Kansas. She graduated from Bishop Miege High School in 1963. Judy attended Sisters of Charity School of Nursing in Buffalo, New York and became a Registered Nurse in 1966. Judy went back to school at Columbia Union College in Takoma Park, Maryland and earned her Bachelor of Science in 1989.
Judy was an active member of Ashton United Methodist Church in Ashton, Maryland for over 40 years. She had a passion for cooking and caring for others. Judy was a member of the church mission team and attended many mission trips. Judy volunteered at two soup kitchens and the cold weather shelter for over 20 years. She also served as a Steven Minister. Judy was a true servant of the Lord.
Judy was married to the late John Palmer Garvey on June 15, 1974 in Lanham, Maryland. They resided in Silver Spring, Maryland where they raised their daughters. Judy is survived by her two daughters, Julie Garvey Brogan and her husband Shawn Brogan of Woodbine, Maryland and Janice Garvey Metz and her husband Tim Metz of Sykesville, Maryland. She was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren: Amelia Brogan, Kaylee Brogan, Lucas Metz, Aubrey Metz and Mason Brogan. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her younger sister Joyce Nutt.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service on Friday, December 12, 2025 at Glenelg United Methodist Church at 11AM, 13900 Burntwoods Rd, Glenelg, Maryland 21737. Family will receive guests at a luncheon immediately following the service.
