Judith Hackworth Dunn Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 17, 2025.
Judith "Judy" Hackworth Dunn, 85, of Springfield, VA, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 6, 2025, in the early morning hours after a brief battle with cancer.

Born April 11, 1940, to the late William (Bill) and Bertha Hackworth in Logan County, WV. Judy was preceded in death by her husband Wallace "Wally" Dunn, her sister Olivene "Ollie" Persons, and her brothers Edward "Eddie" Hackworth, Jack "Barney" Hackworth, & William "Sammy" Hackworth. She is survived by her niece Tammy Riney (Terry), stepson Wallace Bryce Dunn, Jr. (Sue), and a host of friends & extended family members.

A lifelong educator, Judy received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Morris Harvey College (1962), now the University of Charleston. Judy retired after 31 years of service to Fairfax County Schools where she taught Middle School history. Never without a joke, Judy was fun-loving, offering warm hugs and witty banter to friends from all walks of life. She truly enjoyed life to the fullest.

A special thank you to the Greenspring Senior Living Community care team for the thoughtful care you provided Judy over the last several years, Freyweni, her dedicated aide, who she built a special bond with, and Capital Caring Health.

Services will be held at the Calvary Road Baptist Church January 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Dave Rhodenhizer officiating. In accordance with her wishes, Judy was cremated and her ashes interred with her late husband (Roxboro, NC) and with family members (Pecks Mill, WV).
