Judith Dinwoodey "Judy" Hines

JUDITH DINWOODEY HINES of Ashburn, VA died at age 89 on August 30, 2024. A native of Washington, DC, Judy graduated from Duke University and went on to excel in the field of journalism education, leading programs at the American Newspaper Publishers Assocation (ANPA) and the Gannett Foundation Freedom Forum. One of her proudest roles was as Director of the Education Department at the Freedom Forum Newseum in Washington, DC, a museum focused on journalism and the First Amendment. She assumed leadership roles at multiple charitable organizations, including Friends of Loudoun Mental Health, a nonprofit organization, operating in Loudoun County since 1955, assisting people in their recovery from mental illness, and Young DC, a newspaper made for and by high school students in Washington, DC. She was an active member of St. James United Church of Christ in Lovettsville, VA. She is survived by her son, David Hines of Forest Grove, Oregon, her daughter Nancy Hines Sulek (David) and grandchildren Austin and Kate Sulek of Leesburg, VA, and brother David Dinwoodey (Mary Ellen) of Wellesley Massachusetts. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 11 a.m., at St. James United Church of Christ, Lovettsville, Virginia.
