It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Judith “Judy” Hansen, born on September 10, 1940, in Cleveland, Wisconsin. Judy peacefully departed this life on the morning of February 28, 2025.
Judy was the beloved daughter of Merlin and Jeanette (Stanzel) Matthias of Cleveland, WI and Sheboygan, WI. She is the eldest of 5 children including Patricia (spouse Robert) , Mary (spouse Guy), Mark (spouse Sharon) and Mike (spouse Terry). Judy was the loving wife of Allan Hansen, who passed away from cancer in 1999. Together, they raised three wonderful children: John Hansen (spouse Susan), Steven Hansen, who passed away in a skiing accident in 2005 (spouse Jody), and Jennifer Jagodzinski (spouse Kevin). Judy also had a daughter-in-law (Mary Martin), 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Since Allan’s passing, Judy has been the loving partner of Tony Kopchinski in Kronenwetter, WI for over 20 years.
A graduate of the Milwaukee School of Nursing, Judy became a dedicated Registered Nurse, primarily in pediatrics, bringing comfort and care to countless children throughout her career at Tampa Bay General in Tampa, FL; Saint Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan, WI; and the Wausau Hospital Center in Wausau, WI. Her passion for helping others knew no bounds, and her impact on the community will never be forgotten. Outside of her professional life, Judy had a zest for adventure, an infectious enthusiasm and an unwavering love for the great outdoors. She found joy in cross country skiing, not only winning her age group, but besting women up to 20 years her junior in the American Birkebeiner ski race. She participated in the “Birkie” for many, many years. She was also an avid cyclist, riding up to 100 miles and more with ease; winning many cycling races and participating in many events. She was always eager to explore new horizons and enjoy the beauty of nature.
Judy’s legacy lives on through everyone that has known and loved her. While we mourn her passing, we take solace in the memories we shared and the love she spread during her time on this earth. Rest in peace, dear Judy, your amazing spirit will forever be with us.
