Judith Lyons Obituary

Janesville, WI - Judith Ann "Judy" Lyons, age 85, passed away at Mercy Hospital in Janesville on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. She was born on January 20, 1940, in Shullsburg, WI, the daughter of Lloyd H. and Marion E. (Welch) Rooney. On January 27, 1962, she married Goodwin R. "Pete" Lyons, Jr. in Madison, and together with their three children moved to Janesville in 1972.

Judy graduated from the St. Mary's School of Nursing in 1961 and went on to work as a registered nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. She was a member of Nativity of Mary Catholic Parish in Janesville, the Janesville Woman's Club Association, and the Janesville Art League. Judy was a self-taught artist, and was very good in several different mediums. This passion led to the origin of L'Atelier, an art studio that she started with her two good friends, Marilyn Keating and Claudia Fitzgerald. Judy loved to read, work on crossword puzzles, and had a love for animals as those who knew her knows there was always a dog in the house throughout the years. Judy and Pete would winter in Naples, FL, and religiously attended and hosted Badger Football tailgate parties for over 40 years. Judy will also be remembered for her delicious cooking.

Judy is survived by her husband, Pete; children: Goodwin "G.R." (Anita) Lyons, III, Patrick (Julie) Lyons, and Patricia (Michael Krueger) Lyons, DDS; grandchildren: Matthew Muzzy, Kayla Ashley Lyons, Goodwin Raymond "Winn" (Hannah) Lyons, IV, Ryan (Megan Stoneman) Malec, Hannah Malec, Jackson Rooney Lyons, Olivia Mignone Lyons, Colton Rooney "Louie" Lyons, Marina Krueger, and Mitchell Krueger; and her cousin who was more like a sister, Mary Kay (Steven) Walker. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, January 9, 2026, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church with a visitation at 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Foundation for the Preservation of 108 S. Jackson (https://www.janesvillewomansclub.com/) would be greatly appreciated by the family.
