Judith Anne Rulon passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Monday, January 19, 2026.
Judy was born on March 26, 1944, in
Needles, California. She attended Humboldt State College (1962-64), and Covenant College (1987-89) earning a bachelor's degree in elementary education, and then a master's in education from Tusculum (1995-97).
She married her beloved husband in
Needles, California on August 31, 1963, and started her married life at Humboldt State in Arcata, California. She then moved with her husband to The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio where her son, David, and daughter, Shari, were born. They lived in Santa Barbara, California for a few years before settling on
Lookout Mountain, Georgia in 1975.
She held a long career as an educator. She was a teacher's aide at Fairyland School before deciding to go back to college and complete her bachelor's degree at Covenant College while her children, David and Shari were in high school. She then taught second grade in the same classroom at Chattanooga Christian School for 25 years and was a blessing to all who encountered her. She loved her second graders and supported them inside and outside the classroom, often going to their various events and attending their high school graduations.
Judy was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandma, friend, teacher, mentor, prayer warrior, cheerleader, travel buddy, concert partner and more.
Judy was a charter member at North Shore Fellowship in Chattanooga and faithfully served the North Shore body for 21 years. Her servant heart was evident in every area of church life as she volunteered in children's ministry, mentored women in the congregation, and was a consistent source of encouragement to the pastors.
She loved her six grandchildren, cherished her role as Grandma J, and had the privilege of seeing her oldest granddaughter, Mishea'la, get married this past summer. Her next granddaughter, Kae'sha, is getting married this weekend, January 24, 2026 so Judy will have a view from heaven.
She was a bright light filled with soft spoken kindness and lived a life that demonstrated the compassion of Christ. She listened and made you feel "seen" and shared the joy she had in Jesus with everyone around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Berenice and Carl Perkins, and brother, Carl Perkins, Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Mike Rulon; son, David Rulon (Cora), daughter, Shari Rulon Browder; grandkids, Mishea'la Harrison (Cadarius), Kae'sha Russell (fiancé Joseph Shavrnoch), Annabelle Rulon, Eloise Browder, Sierra Browder and Porter Browder.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be given to Chattanooga Christian School.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, January 31, at 2 p.m. at North Shore Fellowship, 118 Woodland Ave. Visitation will immediately follow the service with light refreshments at 105 Frazier Ave.
