Judy Babel Obituary

Judy Louise Babel

Judy Louise Babel, a woman of extraordinary strength and unwavering dedication, passed away peacefully surrounded by her daughters on the morning of March 7th, 2025, at the age of 75. Her life, a testament to resilience and compassion, leaves behind a legacy of profound impact.

Born on May 17th, 1949, in Laramie, Wyoming, to Richard W. and Lillian M. Burnett, Judy's life was defined by her unwavering commitment to others. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Colorado, and embarked on a career that truly embodied her spirit: teaching special education. For over 30 years, she poured her heart into her students, providing not only academic instruction but also unwavering support and encouragement. She saw potential where others might not, and her dedication transformed countless lives. Even in retirement, she maintained close connections with many of her former students, a testament to the lasting impact she made.

Judy was a woman of extraordinary inner strength and independence. She faced life's challenges with unwavering resolve, refusing to let any obstacle, including her disability, define her. She was a force of nature, finding joy in physical activity, horseback riding, and the simple pleasures of life. Summers spent on the ranch near Medicine Bow were treasured moments, filled with fishing, picnics, and the beauty of the Wyoming landscape.

Judy's love story with John Charles "Jack" Babel began with a chance meeting at summer camp, blossoming into a lifelong partnership. Their shared journey continued at the University of Northern Colorado, where their bond deepened. On September 6th, 1969, they married in Medicine Bow, marking the beginning of a marriage defined by a love that surpassed others-grounded in faith, deep affection, and unwavering commitment to family. Their shared passion for education led them to teach special education together in Lander, Wyoming, and Carlsbad, New Mexico, where they touched the lives of countless students. Active members of their church family, their lives were a testament to the strength found in faith and community. For 13 years, they also shared their faith through teaching religion classes.

Judy's love for her family was boundless. She was a devoted mother to Christy Babel-Anaya and Anita Babel Pasion (Gil Pasion), and a cherished grandmother to Cheyenne Demar (Will Demar), Madison Thompson, and the late Austin Babel. She was also a loving great-grandmother to Andre Demar. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Summers were filled with joyful adventures, whether traveling to visit them or welcoming them into her home. She created lasting memories through shared experiences. These moments, filled with laughter and love, were the heart of her world.

Judy's independent spirit shone brightly throughout her life. She was a woman who lived on her own terms, facing adversity with grace and determination. Her legacy of compassion, strength, and unwavering dedication will forever be remembered by her daughters, Christy and Anita (Gil); her granddaughters, Cheyenne (Will) and Madison; her great-grandson, Andre; her sister, Carol Burnett; and her brother, John Burnett. She was preceded in death by parents, her brother, Wally Burnett, her husband, Jack, her grandson Austin, and her son-in-law, Edward Anaya. Judy Louise Babel's life serves as an inspiration, reminding us of the power of resilience and the lasting impact of a life lived with purpose.

A visitation will be held Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at FRENCH Westside Chapel with a Rosary to follow at 1:00 p.m. A Mass will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St. Josephs Dr. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120. I met Judy at Open Gym. She was such a lovely person, always a smile. In Steve's Bodies in Motion class, Judy was an inspiration--if Judy keeps doing this so can we! All of us so looked forward to seeing her at the gym & we will certainly miss this beautiful person.

I don't knoe how or what to say, but I'm going to say it bluntly. This woman was a soild rock, high school was tuff for me, if it wasn't for BIP, knowingly as ( BABEL'S Intotavory prison) behavior intervo ( <--in correct spelling) problem, IEP (<---AKA special ed) class of 2000. I sure wouldn't be the person I am today, she and jack helped me more then she should have by far, we kept in contact till the end, from Christmas cards to random phone calls, Facebook chats. She always had addvice and her motherly voice, I could go on for days n days about Mrs bable.. To her family I send my thoughts your way, she was and always well be the best..(cheers with a glass of wine and candles burning)..

Judy was an inspiration to me. I will always cherish knowing her for the last eight years. I lived across the street from her and admired her resilience, her dedication to keeping fit and her ultimate joy in riding horseback. She was a true hero. My deepest sympathies to her family.
