Judy Shockley Ellis
September 5, 1940 – December 30, 2025
Judy Ellis of Falmouth passed away at 10:45 a.m. on December 30, 2025, at Royal Nursing and Rehab in Falmouth. She was 85 years old.
Judy was born in Bridgewater, attended Bridgewater public schools, and graduated from Bridgewater High School. She spent her early adulthood in Bridgewater until the early 1970s, when she moved to Martha's Vineyard. There she raised her family and worked in the long-term care unit at Martha's Vineyard Hospital, tending to the care and comfort of others with compassion and dedication.
In the early 1980s, Judy relocated to Florida, where she worked at a hospital continuing her career in health care. In the early 2000s, she returned to Martha's Vineyard to be closer to her family. During this time, she worked at Leslie's Pharmacy, greeting customers with her signature fun-loving personality. She spent her final years in Falmouth, close to her youngest grandson, Cayton.
Judy had a zest for life, a passionate spirit, and a fantastic sense of humor. She had a unique vocabulary and will be remembered for her signature exclamation, "geecause crow!" as well as her creative and affectionate use of the word "dickens." Fiercely independent and full of personality, she loved to laugh with family and friends and could often be heard cheering - or shouting - during one of her beloved Boston Red Sox games. She will no doubt continue to watch over her grandchildren from beyond, all dressed in Red Sox regalia, reminding them not to pout-or she'll "have to hang a bucket on that lip!"
She is survived by her two sons: Gary Ellis and his wife, Mary, and Scott Ellis and his wife, Donna. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Thomas, Daniel, Alley, and Cayton Ellis, and a cherished great-grandmother to Aria Ellis. Her family was extremely important to her, and she always made a point to stay in touch with both her immediate and extended family.
Judy will be deeply missed and remembered for her humor, passionate spirit, and larger-than-life personality. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
