Judith Ann “Judy” (Barnes) Funke, 82, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025, in her home following a battle with cancer.

She was born November 26, 1942, in Clay Center, KS, to Harold and Lillian (Alexa) Barnes. The family lived on a farm just west of Morrowville and later moved to Washington, where Judy graduated from Washington High School in 1960.

She married Robert “Bob” Funke on November 26, 1960, at the United Methodist Church in Washington, KS. They lived the first six months of their marriage in Abilene, KS, then moved back to Washington, where they raised their three children.

Judy considered her greatest achievement to be that of a stay-at-home mom for her children. Once they were all in school, she worked at the local Sears store one day per week for nine years. She then worked full-time at the Washington County Treasurer’s Office from 1978–1992, transferring to the Appraiser’s Office until her retirement in 1997.

Judy was known for her excellent baked goods, which she shared with family, friends, and neighbors. She was an accomplished seamstress, creating beautiful garments including wedding gowns, many years of May Fete costumes, and cherished Barbie doll clothing for her daughter and granddaughters. She enjoyed time spent with her friends through Monday Evening EHU. In her retirement years, Judy spent countless hours in her flower beds—particularly her extensive hosta gardens. She enjoyed quilting in the winter months, an art passed down from her mother.

Preceding her in death were her parents and an infant brother.

Survivors include her husband, Bob; son David (Jane) Funke; daughter Kelly (Clint) Stamm; and son Don (Deb) Funke. Grandchildren include Kurt Funke, Brock Funke, Jay (Kelsey) Stamm, Brooke (Cody) Ohlde, Lindsay (Brady) Conner, Garrett Funke, and Riley Funke. Great-grandchildren are Brogan Stamm and Chloe Ohlde. She is also survived by her brother, Steve (Debbie) Barnes, and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and treasured friends.

Pallbearers were Ron Montague, Kurt Funke, Cody Ohlde, Brock Funke, Jay Stamm and Garrett Funke.

A graveside service was held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at the Washington City Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., followed by a lunch at the Washington Christian Church Fellowship Hall, 16 C Street, Washington, KS.

A memorial fund has been designated to Meadowlark Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, 115 W. 2nd St., Washington, KS.
