Judy Martin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 14, 2010.
On October 14, 2010, Judy Martin died peacefully after a long, active life in this community. She was born Frankie Judith Farmer on February 19, 1917, to the marriage of William Frederick Farmer and May Fisher. Her family connections stretch to the Jamestown Colony on one side and on the other to the founders of both Pine Tree Cumberland Presbyterian Church and First Baptist Church of Longview. She was as member and one of the first woman elders of First Presbyterian Church, Longview. She held an Honorary Life Membership in the Presbyterian Women's Organization. Services will be Monday, October 25, 2010 at 1:30 PM at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jonathan Jehorek and Dr. W. D. O'Neal officiating under direction of Rader Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memory Park Cemetery. Judy graduated in the Longview High School class of 1935, which, together with graduates of the old First Ward elementary school, remained lifelong friends. She was a member of the High Hopes Garden Club, the First Monday and Tuesday Bridge Clubs, and a former member and past president of the Oak Crest Woman's Club. Judy continued to be an active member of the FN Chapter, P.E.O. Sisterhood. In 1987, Judy retired as Secretary-Treasurer of hart Engineering Company, having worked in that business for thirty-six years. She was predeceased by her husband, William Clifford Martin, Jr., in 1963, and is survived by her son, and daughter-in-law, Wm. C. Martin, III and Janet Geist Martin; her granddaughter, Melissa Marie Martin and great grandchildren, Alexander William Martin and Sydney Grace Martin of Redmond, Washington, and by her grandson, Charles William Martin and his wife, Christial, and her son, Blake Johnson of Hill County and great grandchildren, Charles Garrett Martin of Haslett and Charla Richelle Martin of Weatherford. Judy has one surviving first cousin, Kirk Fisher of Tyler, and many other cousins in this area by reason of her descent from the Fishers, Tankersleys, Sparkmans, and Killingsworths who they were well known and fondly remembered by her. On her husband's side, she is survived by her dear sister-in-law, Helen Martin Johnston and nieces, Blanche Bivins Bruyere, Gayle Johnston Parker and Decie Johnston Brookshire and their children. The family deeply appreciates the loving care provided Judy by Dr. Sreeman Jampana, and by the Buckner Westminster Place, and especially the staff at Hawthorn House, and by HeartsWay Hospice. The family request that memorials be made to Buckner Westminster Place, HeartsWay Hospice, or to First Presbyterian Church.
