Juletta "Julie" Moening of Apple Valley passed away at the age of 86 on October 31, 2025, due to complications from a stroke.
The funeral will be held at Church of the Risen Savior Catholic Church in Burnsville on Tuesday, November 25. A visitation will be held at the church starting at 10:00 a.m. and the service will begin at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon at the church will follow.
Julie was born on a farm near St. Rosa, Minnesota, to Alphonse and Rose Klaphake and had three brothers and three sisters. She married James "Jim" Moening at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in St. Rosa on September 2, 1963. The couple made their home in Apple Valley, Minnesota, where they lived ever since. Julie was a stay-at-home mom in the beginning, raising their three children. In 1977 she began working as a cook at Westview Elementary School, where she worked for 20 years. When Brant, one of her children, went through the school lunch line as a young child and saw his mom, his face would light up with a joyful smile as he proudly referred to her as a chef, not a cook, because she always baked the tater tots so they were crisp and not soggy - just the way the kids loved them. She had a strong faith and was a member of the Church of the Risen Savior. She served in several volunteer roles, including as a Eucharistic Minister alongside Jim, setting up luncheons for funerals, and more recently bringing food for funeral gatherings.
Julie was truly an angel on earth. She put others before herself and had an incredibly strong sense of empathy. She was known for keeping peace and never arguing. She didn't need to be in the spotlight, but nurturing others was her superpower. Julie felt great happiness and joy when spending time with family and friends. She loved them dearly, and every one of them had, and still has, a very special place in her heart.
In her younger years, she loved family gatherings on Sundays and going to dance halls as a teenager. After she and Jim had children, she enjoyed summer road trips across the country with family. She would also drop everything to spend time with her kids - playing board games, going to the park, baking, etc. She was a fantastic cook and an even better baker.
In her retired years, Julie and Jim enjoyed traveling to see their grandchildren and visiting countries in Europe. When their five grandchildren came along, she embraced her nurturing role again and enjoyed every moment with them. Playing cards was one of her favorite pastimes. When she and Jim joined the YMCA over 20 years ago, she not only enjoyed exercising but also playing cards and visiting with a wonderful new circle of friends. Her women's card group continued to bring her joy as she cherished those friendships as well. She treasured family moments and rarely missed an opportunity to visit her hometown, where she and Jim had a cabin and could spend time with family. Julie and Jim were true partners who cared for each other and loved each other's company to the end. They were a great team!
