Julia Kitley Obituary

Julia Kitley

December 27, 1935 - June 12, 2025

Julia Anita Garner Kitley, age 89, was born into eternal life on June 12, 2025, what would have been her 61st wedding anniversary. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, elementary school teacher and the perfect Methodist minister's spouse. She was the first of seven children born to Howard McNeill Garner and Mary Etta Chriscoe on December 27, 1935, in Randolph County, but was raised in Seagrove, N.C. Julia was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Rev. Ralph Marsden Kitley; and also her sisters, Betty Estelle, Shirley Marie, and Rosa Alice.

She is survived by her three brothers, Roby, Tommy and Doug Garner; her oldest child, Ralph Kitley (Loretta) and their children, Zachary Rowland (Deborah), Nicholas Rowland (Jennifer), Raven and Elizabeth; and her younger son, Barry Kitley (Wendy) and their children, Victoria, Virginia and Bladen Sophia.

Julia spent her life as an elementary school teacher serving in communities throughout western North Carolina as the family moved every few years in support of the United Methodist Church. Julia loved supporting Marsden in this career and enjoyed meeting new people in each community. Her hobbies revolved around entertaining guests and meeting new people. She would rather have "guests to her house and cook a meal than go to the movies." Julia lived in simple terms and knew that the joys of life centered around people and relationships. Julia attended Randolph and Moore County Schools and was a graduate of High Point University.

Ralph, Barry, and their families will welcome friends on Friday, June 13th, from 5 to 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church located at 512 N. Main Street High Point, N.C. The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, June 14th, at 2 p.m., at the same location in High Point. A gravesite burial celebrating Julia will be at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church Cemetery at 3543 Robinhood Road, Winston-Salem, N.C., immediately following the service in High Point.

Memorials may be made to High Point University, One University Parkway High Point, NC 27268.

Sympathy to Ralph and Barry and their families. I worked closely with Julia on the Parsonage Committee when she and Marsden were at Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Pinnacle. Julia was a lovely lady and I have many fond memories of her.

Barry and Ralph,
I´m happy you were able to keep your mother so long. 89 years old that´s awesome. She was a very kind and sweet lady. I´m sure she had a lot of influence on you two guys. A lot of wonderful memories with you too especially you, Barry.
