My husband and I first met Julia when we moved in next door to her. She was so sweet and welcoming. We would see her on and off when she came home from work or on the weekends? Doing laundry or planting plants. We got to know Julia best after the Loma prieta earthquake. I was 2 weeks overdue with our daughter. When I came home from the hospital with her, Julia was so sweet. She came over with some presents for the baby and from there we struck up a wonderful friendship. Julia was always so sweet. Aunt was always so helpful as our daughter grew older. She often would take her in the stroller for her walks in the afternoon on her days off to allow me time to either get a shower or vacuum the carpet or just some quiet time. Not quite 2 years later we had another daughter and Julia. Just seemed so happy to join in and help out. She was always so generous bringing things for the girls and helping out here and there. She just seemed to have a real joy for the girls and she became a Grandma for them. The girls love her so much and started calling her Juju when our oldest daughter started talking. The nickname stuck and she became Grandma Juju! The girls always wanted to knock on the door and go over to see her. They had such a wonderful relationship with her and she was always so loving and kind with them. She took the girls on so many wonderful outings and experiences rides on the bus rides in her big car which she had to sit on two pillows to see over the dashboard. Another thing she loved to do was to take the girls on the train and to the malls to go shopping. Julie was always a bargain hunter. She would ask if there was anything that the girls needed and then she would find the best price she could. She seemed to delight in getting even just the smallest thing for the girls, especially if it was a favorite character or favorite color that the girls liked. When we moved a little ways away to San Jose, we still kept up our friendship going back and forth from our house to pick her up and go out on outings and for lunch or dinner and to celebrate each other's birthdays. When our youngest daughter was born we insisted Julie come and see me and be one of the first to hold our precious daughter as she was Grandma to her too. There are so many stories that we could share so many times we spent with her. I will always take away the precious thoughts of how kind Julia was to us and how much she meant to us is beyond all measure. We will miss her. May she rest in peace.
