Julia Salas Obituary

Julia Salas
It is with heavy hearts that we share with you that Julia (aka Julie or Jewels) Jensen Salas peacefully earned her heavenly wings while at home on the sunny morning of December 10th, 2025. A vigil & rosary will be held at Crippen & Flynn in Redwood City on 12/29/25 between 3pm - 7pm; rosary at 4pm. A funeral Mass will be held on 12/30/25 at Church of the Nativity in Menlo Park at 11:00am. After Mass she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Charles ("The Great Chazz") at Alta Mesa
Memorial Park at 1:30pm. A Celebration of Life will be held in 2026 (date T.B.D.).
Julie is predeceased by her parents Regina & Thomas Jensen, grandparents Marie & Adolf Bushcke, uncle Arnie Jansing, husband Charles Salas, brother Paul Jensen and her children Nicki Salas Carrico & Aaron Salas. Julie is survived by her daughter-in-law Monica Salas, granddaughters Summer & Eva and grandson Charlie and her son-in-law Jeff Carrico and granddaughter Tiffany. Julie is also survived by cousin Betty, niece Regina "Gigi" Jensen (David), great nephew Connor, niece Victoria "Vicky" Nitch (Steve), great niece Nicole, great nephew Jacob, nephew Kristian Jensen (Catherine), great nephews Elijah & Micah, her Red Hat Sister families of Jeanne Jensen Shada (Wayne & Kathleen) and Christy Emblem (Jennifer & Jason Villalovos), as well as many Danish cousins in the U.S. and Denmark.
Julie was born in and lived her entire life in Redwood City. She proudly attended Sequoia High School and remained active in the Alumni association. She attended San Jose State's nursing program alongside her big brother.
As a devout Catholic, her faith was a central part of her life. She was a Bible study teacher and wedding coordinator for decades at both Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Church of the Nativity.
Her passion for traveling took her around the world. Precious trips to religious sites including Lourdes, Medjugorje and Jerusalem as well as favorites Hawaii and Denmark.
Julie's bountiful philanthropy was limitless. She loved sewing, knitting, gardening and her community. She was an active member of Peninsula Hills Women's Club and the Redwood Nursery School parents group.
She had an entrepreneurial spirit and a colorful patchwork career, including telephone operator, nursing, caregiving and event floral arranging. She started a successful wall papering partnership with her dear friend.
Her greatest accomplishment and joy came from family time whether it be a big family holiday meal or individual time spent with a family member. Annual holiday cookie baking with every generation. Countless berry picking excursions with her kids, her brother's family, her grandchildren and great niece and nephews.
Whether you had just met her, or knew her for 70+ years, Julie built friendships effortlessly and touched hearts meaningfully. She truly created & nurtured a lifetime garden of hearts. She believed pious hearts are welcomed in the garden of paradise and lived it.
Julie was passionate about Redwood trees and active in the Sempervirens Fund. If you are so inclined, please make a donation to the Sempervirens Fund and keep our coastal Redwoods alive for generations to come: https://sempervirens.org
