Julia Brummitt Smith, age 95, departed this earthly realm on November 11, 2024, at her home in Butner, North Carolina. Born on June 3, 1929, in Oxford, NC, she exhibited a kind and warm-hearted spirit that endeared her to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In her professional life, Julia's passion for others shone through as she dedicated herself to making a difference in the lives of her students as a special education teacher at Murdoch, a state facility. Her commitment to the residents was not merely a career; it was a calling, a testament to her compassionate nature and profound belief in the potential of every person.
Throughout her life, Julia cherished her family above all. She found immense joy in cooking for her loved ones, woodworking, and creating warm memories that would linger long after the meal was finished. Her home was often the gathering place for celebrations, where laughter and love filled the air, a true reflection of her nurturing spirit.
Julia is survived by her devoted daughter, Kathy Brummitt (Mike), her son, Dean Smith (Dixie), her daughter, Patricia Branch (Curtis), and her grandchildren, Pamela Burton (Tim), Story Rudder (Chris), great grandchildren Hope Belton (Chris),Curtis Burton Jr (Montana), Micah Buzzell, and Logan Buzzell. The legacy of her love extends further to encompass her great great grandchildren:, Wyatt, Anna, Andrew, and Abram. As well as nephew Robert Morris (Pam), great nephews and nieces Tina Morris, Wesley Morris, and Joseph Morris. In her nurturing embrace, she cultivated a family that now flourishes with her warmth and wisdom.
She joins in eternal rest with beloved family members who preceded her...her husband, Leslie Allen Smith, her father, Charlie Algenon Morris, Sr., her mother, Pauline Freeman Morris, her brother, Charlie Algenon Morris, Jr., and her grandsons, Charlie Algenon Morris, III, and Kyle Joseph Buzzell.
A funeral service will be held in Julia’s honor on November 16, 2024, at the Community Methodist Church in Butner, NC, beginning at 10:00 AM, followed by a visitation from 11:00 AM to 12:15 PM. She will be laid to rest on November 18, 2024, at Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor, NC.
Julia Brummitt Smith’s legacy of kindness and dedication to her family and students will forever be remembered. While she may have departed from our midst, her spirit shall continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
