Julianne Schworm of Sarasota Florida passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025, at the age of 85. She leaves behind her beloved husband Richard Schworm, her daughter Stephanie Wood, stepdaughter Kara Murray, stepson Daniel Schworm, and daughter-in-law Elaine Schworm. She was preceded in death by her son Robert Wood Jr. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren Robin, Mark, Nathalie, and Meghan as well as several great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by her sister Elizabeth Lamson, cherished extended family members and friends, and by those to whom she had become a second mother or grandmother.
Julie was born in Portsmouth, NH and spent most of her adult life in Massachusetts. She and her husband ultimately settled in Sarasota where they enjoyed their last years together.
Julie was a registered nurse and nurse manager on a cardiac care unit for 40 years. She was a groundbreaking leader by ensuring that her nurses could read heart monitors which allowed patients to receive the physician interventions they needed much more quickly. At a time when many doubted nurses could perform such advanced tasks, Julie was a strong advocate, and her team proved the naysayers wrong.
Though she faced increasing physical challenges in her later years, Julie had always lived a vibrant and active life, continually embracing new pursuits. She and her husband learned to sail in middle age. They also became skilled croquet players, and she became a highly sought-after teacher of the sport. Julie and Richard were also dedicated patrons of the arts, with a particular love for opera and dance. She gave her time and energy to various councils and committees, including her service on the Sarasota Opera Guild.
Julie was a "force of nature." She was known for her resilience, outspoken nature, wicked sense of humor, and unwavering friendship. She was also known for her welcoming nature and generosity. There was always room at her table for one more, especially those who needed a place to go on holidays.
Julie (aka Grammy or Ouma) may not be with us anymore, but she leaves us with her legacy of enormous love and strength.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 11:30 am at Church of the Redeemer, 222 S Palm Ave, Sarasota, Florida 34236.
