Age 69
Northport Funeral & Cremation Service family extends our warmest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the family of Ms. Julie Evelsizer, who passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2025, in Northport, AL.
Julie Kay Evelsizer came into this world September 29, 1956 in Quincy, Illinois. She departed it October 4, 2025 in Northport, Alabama.
Julie attended Tuscaloosa City and County schools. She graduated with the class of 1974 from Tuscaloosa County High School, and from the University of Alabama with a degree in American Studies. She worked for the state of Alabama, and retired from Bryce Hospital after 20 years.
Julie was an artistic soul who loved art, music, especially The Kinks, and animals, especially cats. She had a quick mind and sparkling wit, and did not suffer fools gladly. She loved her family and spent as much time with them as she could. She was kind, and accepted people as they are, until proved otherwise. She was a loyal friend. Her friendship with pal Arlene Ray Sewell was strong and lasting. Julie and Joe Powell married in 2014 after a long courtship. He died in 2024.
She had her share of hardships including the trauma of having her house and possessions burn to the ground, a few serious illnesses, and others, but she came through strong. Julie had a special presence, and she will be missed greatly by those who loved her, her family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Powell, her father Ronald Evelsizer, and her brother Richard Evelsizer. Survivors are her mother, Patricia Evelsizer, sisters Zee Evelsizer and husband Jeffery Sitz, Tracy Powell and husband David, beloved niece, Ellis Powell.
Among the people who deserve special recognition are Danny Whitehead, her good friend for over 30 years; the staff and nurses at Forest Manor Nursing Home who made the final year of her life comfortable and safe, and the special people from Hospice of West Alabama who comforted her and cared for her during the final weeks.
