Julieann C. Knox, 82, of Indiana, passed away on January 9, 2026 at St. Andrew's Village in Indiana.

She was born March 26, 1943 to Walter G. and Elsa (Jenss) Vanselow in Milwaukee, WI

Julie attended the University of Wisconsin where she received a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Art. She also attended Beaver College in Philadelphia, PA and received her Master's Degree in Reading. She taught in several school districts in the Milwaukee and Philadelphia areas. In 1984 she moved to Greenville North Carolina and taught at five small country schools. In 1985 she moved again and settled in Indiana, PA where she taught Title I Reading for 25 years. She also taught at Elders Ridge, Homer City and Penn's Manor school districts.

Julie was active in the Indiana Reading Council and served as President for two years. In 1996, she received the "Celebrate Literacy Award" from the Pennsylvania State Reading Association for her work in promoting literacy to young mothers and infants. After she retired Julie became involved with the Indiana Art Association and enjoyed painting in various mediums. She won several local awards for her work. Painting was her passion. She belonged to Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary educational sorority for women. She attended Grace Church where she was an active member of the 3 AM Friends Small Group and The Seekers.

Julie is survived by her husband, Gordon Knox; son, Jonn Barker (Kelli) of Indiana, PA; two grandchildren, Tyler and Madison Barker, Indiana, PA; and daughter, Charla Barker of Santa Monica, CA. She is also survived by two step-daughters; Karen Carr-Knox of Newcastle, UK and Julie Edwards of Wales, UK; plus five step-grandchildren Rebeca Edwards, Sam Edwards, Joel Edwards, Caitlin Carr-Knox, Lucy Carr-Knox and 4 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Grace Church on Monday, January 19th at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Indiana Art association or The Artist Hand Gallery both located at 732 Philadelphia Street, Indiana, PA 15701.
