Julienne (Julie) Florence (Velie) Kopp of Elk Mound, WI, passed away peacefully on the farm that she loved, at the age of 99, on Tuesday, July 4th, 2023. She was born on April 24, 1924 to Oscar and Florence (Zimmerman) Velie. She received her education from Aggie School of Menomonie and Northwestern Bible College. She grew up in the Elk Mound area where she met her future husband, Fred Shaw Kopp. They were married June 28th, 1946. Fred and Julie worked together to build a family dairy farm that left a legacy of Christ's love for His people. In addition to raising 3 children, they opened their home to many relatives; one of which was her younger brother Philip, who they raised as their own son.
Julie loved her grandchildren. They could talk her into anything, like riding a motorcycle, fishing in a boat, go-kart rides, and riding along as they hauled wagons. She will always be remembered for her love of pizza and ice cream. She loved playing Scrabble, coffee with friends, and taking walks in their cornfields with her walking stick, praying for rain. She always kept the cookie jar full and had homemade strawberry jam available. She loved to cook and it was witnessed by many as she poured out her love around her large kitchen table.
Julie was an active member of Amy Chapel, where she played the piano for many years and was involved with children's ministries. She was considered a prayer warrior and was often found with her Bible open praying and memorizing Scriptures at that same large kitchen table.
Julie is survived by her son Tom (Cindy) Kopp, daughter Dawn (Moose) Hase, and son- in-law Bernie Baker; along with 10 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Her sister Jeanette Herald, brother Philip Velie, brother-in –law John Slaughter, sisters-in-law June Velie and Virginia Velie. She is also survived by her step-mother Freda Velie and half-siblings Rachel, Sharon, Van and Tom: along with many nieces, nephews and loved ones.
Julie is preceded in death by her husband Fred, her parents, her daughter Colleen Kopp Baker, her brothers Dan, Bud, Norm (Babe), Spoof (Phyllis), her sisters Elaine (Red) Axtell, Joyce Slaughter, her brothers-in-law Ron Howard and Duane Herald.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at Amy Chapel, E9882 370th Ave., Eau Claire, WI, on Saturday July 15th, at 11:30 a.m. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that memorials can be made to Amy Chapel, Rural Bible Crusade or the Gideons.
