Julio "Lio" Dayne Matamoros, 17, of Marion, passed away at 8:52 pm on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, to Julio Matamoros and Corinne (Landrum) Rose.
Lio was a senior at Mississinewa High School. From a young age, he showed a remarkable talent for sports, having participated in soccer, football, basketball, golf, and especially baseball, where he excelled as a shortstop and most importantly, a teammate. His passion for the game was matched by his kindness and his ever-present smile. Lio was recently accepted to attend Indiana Wesleyan University in the fall of 2025, with dreams of making a significant impact on the world.
Lio was a beloved son, grandson, brother, uncle, and friend. He approached everything he did with full heart and passion, striving for perfection. His presence made the world a better place. Lio had such a pure heart and he always made sure his family knew he loved them and he loved people well!
He is survived by his mother, Corinne Rose; father, Julio (Janna) Matamoros; brothers, Dalton Landrum and Ryder Rose; sisters, Darah Watson and Jessa Gearhart; girlfriend, Cali Gann; nephews, Avahni and Juni; niece, Navy; grandmother, Karen Nichols; grandfathers, Jeronimo (Luz Maria Hernandez) Matamoros and Joel Gearhart; great-grandfather, Ed Hoover; uncles, Brett (Brittany) Nichols, Craig Landrum, Seth Gearhart, Adam Gearhart, Issac Gearhart, Angel Matamoros, and Manuel (Lizzie) Matamoros; aunts, Angelica Matamoros and Marissa Gearhart; cousins, River, Aspen, Luzma, Emilio, Juanie, and Samantha; as well as a tribe of loyal friends and distant family members.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gary G. Landrum.
The family will receive visitors from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Brookhaven Wesleyan Church, 2960 E. 38th St., Marion, IN.
A funeral service to celebrate Lio's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Brookhaven Wesleyan Church, with Pastor Noah Farmer officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory - Marion.
