June Amundson Obituary

JUNE AMUNDSON
June 2, 1922 ˜ September 12, 2023

June Amundson was born June 2, 1922, in Knowlton, MT, to Carroll and Mildred Brooks. She grew up on a ranch where her dad homesteaded on a section of land out of Garland, MT. She attended Ash Creek Grade School and Custer County High School.

Her love of horses began when she was very young. She earned her first horse by herding sheep for her dad. She married the love her life, Ernie, in 1938. They had three children, Randy, Teresa and Eric.

During WWII, she drove a forklift for Alcoa Aluminum.

Her hobby was trail riding. She also liked needlework and making a home for her family. After the children were grown, she loved to travel with Ernie in their motor home. She was a member of the Battle Ground Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and was the church prayer hot line coordinator for many years.

She and Ernie were charter members of the Washington Trail Riders Association and past members of the Columbia River Appaloosa Club. She helped organize and was a member of the Silver Spur Trail Riders. She and Ernie spent many happy hours riding horseback on the Pacific Crest Trail and Round the Mountain Trail. They rode seven years of the annual Chief Joseph Trail Ride. One summer, they rode the Apache Land ride out of Douglas, AZ. in 1989, she and Ernie (who was assistant wagon master) headed up the 1989 Washington Centennial Wagon Train from Fort Vancouver to Olympia.

Her last trail ride was a 100-mile ride from Asotin, WA, to Joseph, OR. She did this at age 72 and may have continued if her horse had not given out.

Her children, Randy (Jackie), Teresa J. Bomar, Eric P. (Debbie) and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were all very special to her.

She was married to her beloved husband, Ernie, for 74 years. He preceded her in death on Nov. 24, 2012.
