June 5 was born June 1930 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Herman and Mable Moss. June passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at The Retreat in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, at the age of 94.
June graduated from Ardmore High School and then attended Southeastern State College in Durant, Oklahoma and received her Bachelor of Science in Business and Elementary Education. She then received her master's degree in education from the University of New Mexico. Her first teaching position after college was at Goodson, New Mexico, where she taught subjects from grades 1st though 12th in a two-room schoolhouse. After that experience, June and her family moved back to Oklahoma where she taught Elementary School at Mamma Ville Mountain Home and Meadowbrook. June's next adventure in education at Thoreau and Gallup, New Mexico. Subject matter she taught included all standard subjects in elementary school, English in Junior High school and Business Law, typing and American History at the High School level. After 36 years teaching she retired from the Albuquerque Public High School system.
June was a member of the New Mexico Association of Education and served as a Delegate to several State meetings. She was selected as an Outstanding Unit Member for the Albuquerque Association of Educational Retirees. She was also a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa, The Lambda Chapter of Albuquerque, and The Theta Chapter of Gallup.
Some of her hobbies include photography, reading, traveling throughout the United States and Europe, gardening and cooking.
June was preceded in death by her husband Steve Bevens, parents Herman and Mable Moss, sister Mary Murphy and brother Herman Eugene Moss.
June is survived by her son Larry Price and wife Kathy of Columbus, Georgia, daughter Cassie Henderson of Gallup, New Mexico, son Todd Bevens and wife Valerie Torrance, California, and sister Betty Hood of Prosper, Texas and ??? of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for June L. Bevens of Albuquerque, NM will be at 10:00 am, Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at French-WYOMING.
