June Christine "Mama June" Hulitt

1931 - 2025

Mother June Christine Williams Hulitt, affectionately known as Mama June, was born on June 21, 1931, in rural Hinds County to Leeanna Woods and Charles "Buddy" Williams. She was the only child of this union and was lovingly reared by her grandparents, Mary and Will Woods. After moving to Clinton, she attended Sumner Hill and later Holy Ghost School in Jackson. Mother Hulitt earned her high school diploma through the Sumner Hill GED Program and attended Hinds Community College.

On June 9, 1947, Mother Hulitt married Arealous "Shorty" Hulitt. To this union, five children were born: Deborah, Michael, Glenn, Gregory, and Darryl. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and beloved son, Michael Hulitt.

After moving to Clinton, Mother Hulitt joined Holy Ghost Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor R.W. Pickens. She remained a faithful and dedicated member until her health declined. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, Usher, Mission Member, and Wednesday Noon Day Service Leader.

Mother Hulitt began her working years as a teenage babysitter, later worked in domestic service, and concluded her career at Packard Electric, a division of General Motors in Clinton, MS. She retired in 1992. She was an active member of the Clinton Branch of NAACP and the C.A. Williams Federated Club.

In retirement, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and neighbor. She loved tending to her flower garden and will long be remembered as a classy, no-nonsense role model in her community and throughout greater Hinds County. Mama June faithfully cared for the sick, including her mother and Aunt, and her husband. Most recently, she was honored by the Sarah Dickey Neighborhood during Family and Friends Day 2025 as A Christian, a Trailblazer, a Church Leader, a Community Leader, and a Devoted Wife and Mother.

Mother Hulitt leaves to cherish her memory: three sons, Glenn (Sandra) Hulitt, Gregory Hulitt, and Darryl Hulitt; one daughter, Deborah Bradford; a daughter-in-law, Herticine (the late Michael) Hulitt; grandchildren Tammy Mitchell, Adero (Alicia) Corner, Nia Corner, Marantz Hulitt, Jasmine Hulitt, Sidnee (Randy) Denman, Taylor (Chad) Lott, Shelby Hulitt, Brandyn Merchant, Kristian Hulitt, Keefee Scott, and Trevor Thurman; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
