JUNE ESTHER LASHER
December 12, 1919 ˜ August 29, 2023

June Esther (Priegnitz * Page) Lasher, longtime Vancouver resident, passed away on Aug. 29, 2023, at the age of 103. June was born Dec. 12, 1919, in Portland, OR, to Darwin and Ruth Priegnitz. The family changed their name to Page in 1924. June grew up in Portland with her two sisters, where she graduated from Jefferson High School and St Helen’s Hall, in Portland (two-year college program), and later attended Evergreen State College (Vancouver).
June moved to Vancouver after marrying David P. Lasher, raising three children. She enjoyed working as a paraeducator at Hazel Dell Elementary School and later as a volunteer reading tutor at Sarah J. Anderson Elementary School. June was a realtor for a few years and eventually retired from the U.S. General Service Administration motor pool division in Vancouver, WA.
June’s other activities at various times included being a Girl Scout, Camp Fire and Cub Scout leader. For many years, she was active in the First Congregational Church and hosted a book club at her home. June enjoyed reading, painting, music, including teaching and playing the piano, gardening, hiking, and was a lifelong student of all of nature’s wonders. She participated in many Focus on Mature Learning classes at Clark College. June read The Columbian newspaper daily, doing crossword puzzles, sharing articles that sparked her interests and stayed current on political affairs. She was an active voter for over 80 years.
June was preceded by the death of her husband, David in the 1971; survived by her two sisters, Ruth Lotz (102 years old) and Elaine (O’Brien) Murray (99 years old); cousin, Dan Montag; numerous nieces and nephews; son, Doug (Rodie); daughter, Rosalind Olsen (Walter); and son, Jonathan; and two grandchildren, Craig Olsen (Shannon) and Erica Haycox (John); and four great-grandchildren, Declan, Eleanor, Evelyn and Sydney. The memorial service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023, 12:30 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Chapel, 1101 NE 112th Ave., Vancouver, WA.
