June Merkel Obituary

MERKEL, June Floyd, 78, of Chesterfield, passed away February 4, 2009. She is survived by her husband, Claude C. Merkel Jr.; two sons, Russell D. Fowler III and wife, Jo Anne, and Claude C. Merkel III and wife, Deanna; three grandchildren, Leigh Anne Fowler, and Olivia and Grace Merkel; sister, Evelyn Barbour; and a brother, Pat Floyd. Mrs. Merkel was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church. Her family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bliley's - Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Saturday. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 4101 Fordham Rd., Richmond, Va. 23236.

June could always make us laugh. She was a joy to know and be around. We will miss her.

Mr. Merkel,

On behalf of my gradmother Gladys Howell, and myself please accept our deepest sympathy at the passing of your wife. We both worked with her at Miller and Rhoads many years ago. Even though I had not seen here in years, I thought of her often. She was a wonderful person who will be missed.
