Mr. Junior Cripps age 85 of the Brush Creek Community was pronounced deceased at 8:57 P.M. Friday evening February 2, 2024 at the Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital in Lebanon after a short battle with Covid-19 and where he was surrounded by his loved ones.
Funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home are scheduled for Tuesday morning February 6th at 11 a.m. Officiating to "Celebrate his Life" will be Bro. Chris Chambers, pastor of the Brush Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Eld. Carter Robinson, pastor of the Hogans Creek Missionary Baptist Church, and Bro. Wayne Malone, pastor of the Rome Baptist Church. Burial following the services will be beside his beloved wife at the Brush Creek Memorial Gardens.
The Cripps family will receive friends on Monday February 5th from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until services at Sanderson in Carthage.
Mr. Cripps was the son of the late Wilson Cripps Sr. and Erma Lee Christian Cripps.
Born Wilson Cripps Jr. on May 10, 1938 in Lebanon, he moved to Brush Creek where he married the love of his life, the former Jodine Hall on June 30, 1956. She preceded him in death at the age of 63 on August 3, 2000 following over forty four years of marriage.
Also preceding Mr. Cripps in death was his son, Bobby Don Cripps, who died November 29, 2020 at the age of 63, a son-in-law, David Houston Robinson who died April 18, 2023 at the age of 65, and a sister, Ruby Ervin.
Affectionately known as Jr. for all of his life, he was a longtime member of the Brush Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
He was formerly employed at the Alexandria Block Plant, the Alexandria Work Wear Garment Factory, and the Smith County Highway Department. He was also a retired farmer.
He loved gardening, watching birds, wildlife, and John Deere gator rides, playing Bingo and Rook, and eating biscuits and gravy at Hardee's. He lived his life fully until the very end and always had the capacity to love with his whole heart.
Mr. Cripps is survived by his children, Wanda Kaye Cripps Petty and friend, Donald Bratcher of Florida, Wendy Cripps Robinson of South Carthage, Daniel Cripps and wife Connie of Alexandria, daughter-in-law, Daniese Cripps of the Brush Creek Community, special companion, Peggy Napier Lewis of Carthage; half-sister, Judy Patterson and husband Jack, eleven grandchildren, J. R. Cripps and wife Amanda, Jessica Antoniak and husband Sean, Alyse Mills and husband Samuel, Gary Armbruster and wife Angel, Kenlee Cripps, Amelia Anderson and husband Trinity, Eld. Carter Robinson and wife Julia, Tyler Robinson and wife Kim, Amanda Mullinax and husband Kevin, Corey Cripps and wife Hope, Hilary Luckett and husband Brandon; twenty four great-grandchildren.
