Junior "JR" Parrett, age 92, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, was called to his eternal home on February 10, 2026, after a life rich in love, service, and music. Born to the rolling hills of Arvel, KY, on January 27, 1934, JR's roots remained a testament to his steadfast character throughout his life. His final days were in the loving care of his family in
The Woodlands, TX.
A proud veteran, JR dedicated 42 years to the United States Air Force. His eight years of active duty were followed by an impactful career in Foreign Military Sales at the Newark Ohio Air Force Base. Honorable and dutiful, JR served his country with distinction, embodying the ethos of the Air Force through his integrity and commitment. Those who worked with JR recognized a man of integrity and patriotism, a mentor who upheld the values of service above self.
JR's devotion to his family was unparalleled. He was a loving husband to his wife of 71 years, Mary Parrett. Together, they navigated the joys and trials of life side by side. His legacy of love continued through his adoring daughter Becky and her husband Ralph DeLong Jr; his son Michael and his wife Rose; his treasured grandchildren, Megan and her husband Cory Clark, Scarlett and her husband Cole DeCoster, and Mikey Parrett; along with his precious great-grandchildren, Griffey & Goldie Clark, and Sterling DeCoster.
An alumnus of McKee High School, JR's educational endeavors laid the groundwork for his multifaceted talents and his ability to share wisdom with those around him. His love for flying soared beyond his military career; he passionately embraced the role of a flight instructor, guiding numerous students through the wonders of aviation. Beyond the clouds, JR's earthly interests were as rich and diverse as his character. His love for music, especially playing the banjo and fiddle, resonated within the hearts of all who listened. A man of many talents, JR's skills also extended to precise target practice, a hobby through which he connected with friends and entertained cherished family gatherings.
JR's Christian faith was the cornerstone of his existence. As someone who deeply valued his spiritual journey, he walked through life with the love of Christ guiding every decision and interaction. His intelligent, loving, and wise nature was felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
For those who knew him best, JR was the epitome of a loving soul, endlessly giving of himself and embodying the very essence of love described in the Scriptures: "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud." (1 Corinthians 13:4).
As we commemorate and celebrate the life of Junior "JR" Parrett, we recall the eloquent words of C.S. Lewis, "The legacy of a lifetime is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you." JR's legacy is indelibly etched not only in the minds but also the hearts of those who loved him, and his stories will resonate and be shared for generations to come.
JR's journey on earth may have concluded, but his spirit, teachings, and melodies will continue to resonate within the lives of everyone touched by his loving presence. We bid farewell to a soul that will always be remembered with comfort and joy for the grace he brought to this world. As we celebrate his passage into the Lord's embrace, we are eternally grateful for the blessing of his life among us.
We love you Poppie, BTHPC.
