Juniper Windle Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by A Better Place Funeral & Cremation Services on Feb. 6, 2026.
Denver resident Juniper Windle-Smith, was born on December 25, 1972 and after learning she had cancer just 2 month's before passing, Juniper peacefully departed this life on February 2, 2026 with her husband Roger by her side at the young age of 53, having fulfilled the meaningful work she was called to do while here on this earth.

Born to 1st time parents Michael Windle and Peggy Gnapp they were incredibly blessed with the biggest Christmas present they would receive, when Juniper entered their lives on a cold Christmas day in Manitou Springs, Colorado.

Known as a 'private' woman, she didn't easily give in to trusting just anyone; you truly had to earn her trust. Once you had gained that trust, she would then open up more fully and warmly welcome you into her life. She was the type that if you ever told her anything in confidence, she held onto those secrets, while never divulging them or giving in to gossip.

Deeply compassionate and sympathetic toward those in need, she was generous and considerate to a fault. She especially adored animals and babies, and she cherished her little dog Scootie, whom her & Roger rescued from a previously abusive owner.

Juniper had an innate and exceptionally sharp business mind, guided by keen insight and practical judgment, and was blessed with good common sense. She loved a good sale and the thrill of closing a deal, yet she remained steadfast on her price when it came to her part-time side gig of selling Louie Vuitton purses online.

She loved classic fashions and gathered extraordinary, finely designed jewelry with an attentive eye. She cherished the hours it took getting her hair done and always loved making sure it looked its very best. She collected a mass amount of cosmetics and skin care that was enough (if not more!) to open her own store! She enjoyed going to Bronco games with her husband, brother, nephews, and liked hitting the casinos (where she was invariably the one who'd walk away a winner). In quieter moments she preferred the comforts of home, content to be a devoted homebody.

She could be a bit feisty at times, yet always well mannered, a perfectionist to a fault and was highly frugal, all while having an exceptional skill at managing money, while steadily keeping her long-term financial goals within reach. But above all, she was fundamentally just a good hearted woman who always left a good lasting memory with people.

She began working at the youngest age permitted, determined and responsible beyond her years. Wherever she found employment, she lavished her customers with exceptional service and abundant personal attention, so consistently and warmly that patrons soon began requesting her by name. From those first jobs she learned early and clearly what steady hard work and perseverance can accomplish.

She had been an employee of the United States Postal Service since March 2017, and she developed customers who absolutely adored her. She would always bring treats for their dogs and consistently went beyond the usual duties of the post office, taking extra steps to ensure her customers never had to do more than necessary.

Our precious Juniper loved her family deeply, and they loved her just as much in return. She is survived by her devoted husband, Roger Smith (whom she married on February 14, 2014); her 3 children Marcus Dempsey, Jacob Karr, and Joshua Karr (Joshua passed away on December 23, 2021, a loss that truly shattered Juniper's heart); her mother, Peggy Gnapp-Brown; her brother, Michael Windle; her sister Emily Windle (who also passed); her sister Madonna Ellerbee; and a loving host of nieces and nephews who cherish her memory.

A final personal word to you our sweet Juniper:

You are going to be deeply missed more than you'll ever know. Be our guardian angel as we continue our time here on earth, and please watch over us always. Remember, "It's not goodbye, Juniper, but rather 'we'll see each other again.'" Your footsteps can never be filled, nor your love ever forgotten. Though we may not know what comes next, the world is a better place with you in it. May an angel's chorus greet you in heaven, and may heaven's gate stand wide open for you.

What a wonderful, warm woman! Juniper will be so missed by me, Andi, my partner, Mart, and our two dogs, Otter and Hawkeye. She carried our mail but was so much more- she became a friend - and she carries our hearts now and forever.
Juniper and I had so many chats about hair and jewelry and clothes. We'd compare honest notes on how well (or not!) our stylists had done on our highlights, and ask each other 'where did you buy that?" Sometimes we shared more serious notes on relationships, or current events, and I hope I made her feel as understood and supported as she did me.
We kept her favorite Waterloo flavor nice and cold in the fridge, ready for hot summer days, and we exchanged homemade treats at the holidays, like her yummy homemade peach and chili jam for our pear preserves. Day to day, and season through season, we looked forward to seeing her - so petite, so blonde, so spunky!
And if we loved her, well, the dogs loved her more. Otter knew her longest, and knew she was coming by some pattern to how she drove her truck maybe - if it wasn't her, he knew it. If it was her, oh, the excitement! Otter was always easy for her to love because he is calm and well-behaved. That she would give the new wild child, Hawkeye, the same regard (and training help!) speaks to how much she loved dogs.
Oh, Juniper, we all love you! Rest in Peace, sweet lady, until we meet again.
