Obituary of Justin Todd Sabattis
Obituary for Justin T. Sabattis March 24, 1973 – December 31, 2024
With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for his life, we share the passing of Justin T. Sabattis, whose soul peacefully journeyed from this earthly plane on December 31, 2024, following a sudden illness and in steadfast integrity to his sobriety.
Born on March 24, 1973, Justin's life was a testament to resilience, transformation, and love.
A proud member of the Wolastoqey First Nation of New Brunswick, Canada, Justin embraced his Maliseet heritage with pride, finding strength and a deep sense of purpose in his identity.
Justin spent many years as a commercial and residential painter in the Seacoast area, pouring care and craftsmanship into his trade. Later in life, he discovered a higher calling in service to others. Through his journey to sobriety, Justin became a beacon of hope and healing, serving as a Recovery Coach at the Augusta Recovery Re-entry Center (ARRC) in Augusta, Maine. This role was not only a testament to his commitment to helping others but also a cornerstone of his own transformation. At ARRC, Justin's big heart, big smile, and big laugh brought light to every room, leaving an indelible mark on his colleagues, whom he held dear, and the many lives he touched. His work there reflected his passion for guiding others toward renewal, fostering community, and living out the values of compassion and understanding.
Justin is survived by his beloved son, Caleb Patterson of Tucson, Arizona, who brought him immense pride and joy, and by Caleb's mother, Cassandra Patterson, Justin's longtime partner and dear friend. He is also survived by his brothers Vincent Sabattis (and his wife, Tara) of Pittston, Maine, and Clint Sabattis (and his wife, Wendy) of Lebanon, Maine, and his sister, Felicia Sabattis of Edgecomb, Maine. Their bond was rooted in the deep traditions of their upbringing, where all were raised as a close-knit family, united by love and a shared sense of identity. In their home, distinctions between siblings, cousins, and extended family blurred, as everyone was considered part of one larger family unit-brothers, sisters, and children of the same. This unwavering unity extended especially to his Polchies cousins, as well as the Rowe family, and cherished nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart. He was predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Patricia Sabattis of Somersworth, NH, whose love and legacy shaped the person he became.
Justin's legacy is one of kindness, strength, and an unshakable belief in the power of redemption. His big energy-expressed through his warm heart, infectious laughter, and radiant smile-will forever be a part of the legacy he leaves behind. He enriched the lives of all who loved him and leaves a community forever grateful for the gifts he shared.
As we say goodbye, we honor Justin's memory by holding close the values he embodied: love, resilience, and the courage to embrace life's second chances.
A celebration of Justin's life will be held at the Rockingham Ballroom in Newmarket, NH on Saturday, January 11th from 12:00 - 4:00pm. In respect of Justin's sobriety, this will be an alcohol-free event. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Augusta Recovery Re-entry Center in his memory, continuing his mission of hope and healing.
May his spirit soar freely, carried by the strength of his ancestors and the love of those he leaves behind.
