Growing up next door to Dusty meant that he is as woven into who I am. We grew up riding bikes, building forts, eating strawberries from the garden, and playing foosball. Everything we did, we all did it together. I can not think of my childhood without thinking of Dusty. It is such a loss to lose his kind and gentle spirit.

Dusty,
We had plenty of ups and downs in the Highland suite freshman year at WWU. I remember the craziness and your grounded common sense.
We reconnected over eBay and got to hang some more and I just really enjoyed those times and the lessons learned. I really respected the man you came to be. I will miss you dearly

We were so saddened to learn that Dusty has passed. He lived next door to us in Portland for several years, and we became close friends. He was a wonderful neighbor, a kind and gentle spirit, and he often stopped by after he moved to Washington to "live in the woods." Our condolances to his family.... we were very fond of him and know how deeply he will be missed. Carol French and April Lewis

We lived in the same house at western: dusty was full of energy and always up for a good time. He was good natured- always nice to us ladies and a bit wild- but curious. We reconnected later in life as he was thrifted - buying and selling. Always a keen eye. I am sad to hear this and glad his family posted. I don´t know if I can make the memorial but I know dusty would have helped anyone he could at any time. My condolences to family and a life too short . I am glad this news was shared.

Dusty and I went to school together since elementary and we grew very close later in college, spending 4 years together as roommates. It was a period in our lives where we were finding our independence, testing boundaries and carving our niche out of the world. After college, we went our seperate ways, and as with so many of us, got caught up in our lives. We would connect here and there, but that bond we formed over those 4 years ensured that no matter how much time passed between texts or calls, no time seemed to have passed at all, and we were still the dusty and Dana of old.
He wrote me as well on June 26th to send belated condolences for the passing of my mother, and then spent hundreds of words apologizing. He felt he had treated me poorly during those years we were together. He shared how much that time we spent together meant to him and he reference a few of the hundreds of great memories back then.
I never responded, not because I didn´t want to, but because I just never checked Facebook messenger. I didn´t see the message until a few weeks after Chris and Tara dropped the news of his disappearance. So I missed the chance for him to read this response from me...
Dusty, I have no recollection of the reasons behind your apology. It pains me to think that you carried this concern and that I did not do more to make sure you knew that you were never just a friend but a brother. I too cherish all of our idiotic escapades and the partnership you gifted me during such a formative and at times terrifying point in our lives. I too will take the fun, learning and life experience over the diploma every time!
You reminded me of that last day you left, when I was holding up 4 fingers as you drove away, for the 4 years we spent together. What you didnt realize then was those 4 fingers I held up meant "forever". Be at peace, and rest assured that at some point we will see each other again and tell tales from the old days....just like friends forever would do.

Dusty was my neighbor in Portland too. We bonded over the years and would talk together for hours about everything. He was one of the people I felt closest with and he was always there to listen and share stories. I´m so sad to hear of this, Dusty was such a bright light in my life. He was known by my family as the huckleberry guy, because one summer he gave us a few bags of berries he had picked. Dusty will be greatly missed. He was a dear friend, wonderful neighbor, scrappy entrepreneur and full of spiritual curiosity.

Dusty was my friend and neighbor in Portland for many years. He was a wonderful man with a gentle spirit and a kind heart. Dusty was always ready to lend a hand and was the best neighbor you could ask for. We had many great conversations across the fence. I am very sad to hear of his passing and I will always think of him fondly.

Dusty was my good friend. He wrote me on June 26th. We enjoyed a correspondence for many years, and I will miss him dearly. He shared with me pictures of his new place and loved so much that it was near a river, something he had always wanted. He helped me feel less lonely when finding connections was hard for me. I hope I did the same for him.

I never thought I would be seeing this. I love the fact that you still loved me after all these years. You were always the best friend to everybody. I don´t know anyone that doesn´t love you. I know you would have wished me a happy 80th birthday this month. I will miss you very much.

Dusty was a wonderful guy. His kind soul will be really missed. When we last spoke this past spring he was in such a better place and really sounded positive and hopeful. I'm just heartbroken to hear this. Sending my love to his family. May his memory be a blessing.
