Kai Erik Soderholm, 86, of Arbour Square, Harleysville, passed away February 23, 2022. Born in Yttermark, Finland on June 10,1935, He was a son of the late Erik George and Klara Adele (Norrholm) Soderholm. As a young man, he served in the Finnish army, worked in a creamery in Finland and then in Sweden prior to moving to this country. He immigrated to the United States in 1962 and became a naturalized citizen in 1974. He was married to his wife Toni for 55 years, meeting in New York City in October of 1965 and marrying in June 1966. They moved to a one-bedroom house in the "country" in May 1971. After the addition of 2 children, he designed and built the second story addition to the home with the help from friends and family. They resided in that home in Stockholm, New Jersey for 50 years until he moved to Arbour Square in February 2020. Kai was a union carpenter working in New York City for 30 years before retiring. Although he appreciated being at home, after retirement he travelled to dozens of countries and cruised the world with his wife and friends, passing through the arctic circle, equator and around Cape Horn on their many journeys. He enjoyed spending time with his family, talking on the phone with his sister in Finland, drinking coffee, watching the weather, studying maps, and was ingenious in creating his many inventions to make everyday life easier. He was a quiet man of few words; but when he spoke, you listened as his words were either really important or pretty funny.
He is survived by his beloved wife Antoinette "Toni" Gertrude (Scheel) Soderholm. In addition to his wife, Kai is survived by his two children: Heidi, wife of Carl Hashagen, of Green Lane, and Karl Erik Soderholm, and his wife Lori, of Milford, Connecticut; a sister: Joan Granskog, of Helsinki, Finland; and grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Elizabeth, and Willow. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Bo Norrholm.
A Celebration of his life will be held at a later date. To offer online condolences, please visit his "Book of Memories" at falkfuneralhomes.com.
