Kar Dat Lee (1934-2026)

Beloved teacher, devoted father, grandfather, and mentor

Kar Dat Lee, 91, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026. Born on October 3, 1934, in Tai Shan, Guangdong, China, Kar Dat Lee dedicated his life to family, education, and service to others.

Growing up during World War II and amidst the turmoil of Mao's Cultural Revolution, Kar Dat began working as a teacher at a young age to help support his family. He later returned to vocational school to complete his teaching degree and became a highly respected Chinese language teacher. Over nearly 30 years, he touched the lives of countless students, guiding them with wisdom, patience, and dedication. For more than seven decades, he remained a true mentor, believing deeply that education could change lives and shape the future.

Kar Dat's sense of responsibility toward his country and community was unwavering. He worked tirelessly to support his family and embraced life's challenges with strength and optimism. His passion for education was matched only by his deep devotion to his family.

On November 26, 1964, he married his beloved wife, Miao Ling Ye. Together, they raised three children-a son and two daughters-instilling in them the values of hard work, discipline, and compassion. He led by example, serving as a model of integrity and love.

In 1985, seeking a better future for his family, Kar Dat immigrated to Minnesota with the support of his older siblings. Despite the challenges of a new country, he worked tirelessly to provide for his loved ones. In retirement, he found great joy in caring for his granddaughters and spending time with family. He also enjoyed traveling with them, creating lasting memories.

A generous, kind, and compassionate man, he was always ready to lend a helping hand. His wisdom and gentle spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Kar Dat Lee is survived by his loving wife, Miao Ling Ye; eldest daughter Ellen (Louis); son Paul (Catherine); youngest daughter Nicole; granddaughters Melanie (Casey) and Ashley; and grandsons Gavin, Lleyton, and Preston.
